Notes
• The No. 2-ranked Wolverines (26-3) earned the No. 3 seed for the NCAA Tournament, the highest seed in program history and its third top-five seed ever. Michigan won both the 2024 Big Ten championship and 2024 Big Ten Tournament.
• Joining Michigan at the Varsity Tennis Center this weekend are Notre Dame (17-9), Xavier (19-5) and Chicago State (16-12). Michigan will face Chicago State on Saturday (May 4) at 2 p.m., with Xavier and Notre Dame squaring off at 11 a.m. The winners will meet on Sunday (May 5) at 1 p.m.
• Notre Dame is making its second straight appearance in the first and second rounds at the Varsity Tennis Center. Michigan knocked off the Irish 4-1 in the second round last season.
• Michigan and Chicago State are meeting for the first time in program history. It is the second straight season that the Horizon League champion has come to Ann Arbor as Michigan knocked off Youngstown State in the opening round last year.
• U-M has 26 wins entering the NCAA Tournament, tied for the most in program history. U-M won 26 matches in 2015 to set the standard.
• Michigan has won 18 consecutive matches, marking the second-longest winning streak in program history. Dating back to a 4-1 win over NC State on Feb. 22 to kick off the streak, Michigan has five wins over ranked teams and surrendered just 11 points to its opponents. The program record for longest winning streak is 20 matches, set during the 2015 season.
• Piper Charney enters the NCAA Tournament on a 16-match winning streak, compiling a 33-8 overall singles record and a 22-3 record in dual matches. Her 33 wins rank ninth in Michigan's single-season history. She has the second-most wins as a freshman in program history, trailing just Brienne Minor's 36 wins during her freshman season in 2016.
• Kari Miller is 28-7 overall in singles and 13-4 at No. 1. She is up to 93 career wins, becoming just the 13th Wolverine in program history to reach 90 wins. With two more wins, she will break into the top 10 in Michigan history without even playing a fall season during her freshman year.
• Michigan had three players earn berths to the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship in Miller, Julia Fliegner and Gala Mesochoritou. Miller and Jaedan Brown will team up for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
• Singles play has been strong for the Wolverines in dual-match action. U-M is 95-25 in singles play, good for a .792 winning percentage. Charney (22), Mesochoritou (17), Jones (18), Miller (13) and Fliegner (10) have each reached double-digit wins in dual matches. All nine Wolverines have picked up at least one singles win in dual-match play.
• Michigan is 21-0 when winning the doubles point this season and 5-3 without securing the match's first point, getting wins over No. 15 Cal, No. 5 NC State, No. 8 Pepperdine, Maryland and Purdue after falling in doubles play.
