ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team (1-6-1, 0-1-0 Big Ten) will continue Big Ten action this week, heading to Minnesota to face the Gophers (7-0-1, 1-0-0 Big Ten) on Thursday (Sept. 19) and returning home to host Nebraska (3-4-0, 0-1-0 Big Ten) on Sunday (Sep. 22) at 1 p.m.
Notes
• Michigan will play its second straight road game to begin conference play, heading to Minnesota to face the Gophers on Thursday (Sept. 19) at 7 p.m. CDT. The Maize and Blue will return home to U-M Soccer Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 22) to host Nebraska at 1 p.m. in its Pride and Inclusivity Game.
• U-M dropped its only contest last week, falling 6-0 at No. 12 Penn State.
• The first RPI of the season was released on Sept. 16, with the Big Ten coming in as the top-ranked conference. Michigan is the only school in the conference who has played seven top-100 teams.
• Michigan is 11-15-5 all-time against Minnesota and has won the last three games in the series. U-M has not allowed a goal to the Gophers since Sept. 23, 2018.
• The Wolverines return home to host Nebraska on Sunday (Sept. 22), their first home game since a 1-0 win over then-No. 24 Alabama (Sept. 8). U-M is 10-2-3 all-time against the Huskers.
• The Wolverines have faced four teams in this week's poll in No. 9 Penn State, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 21 Colorado and No. 23 Xavier.
• Goalkeeper Stephanie Sparkowski has recorded 14 saves over Michigan's last two contests. She made 10 saves at No. 12 Penn State, her first double-digit save performance of her career.
• U-M is in search of its first road win of the season. Michigan has played road contests at Xavier, Colorado, Iowa State and No. 12 Penn State.
• Avery Kalitta has started 50 consecutive games in the midfield for U-M. She started the final six games of her freshman season (2021) to kick off the streak, starting in every contest in 2022 and 2023. She is one of three Wolverines, joining Sparkowski and Jenna Lang, to start all eight games this season.
• Michigan's contest against Nebraska kicks off a three-game homestand for the Wolverines. After hosting the Huskers, U-M will host Rutgers on the Big Ten Network (Sept. 26) and wrap up the homestand against rival Ohio State on Sept. 29.
