
U-M Set for Road Trip to Mackey for Clash with No. 11 Boilermakers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 21st-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team (14-4, 6-1 Big Ten) will head to West Lafayette, Ind., for a primetime Fox game against No. 11 Purdue (15-5, 7-2 Big Ten) inside Mackey Arena on Friday (Jan. 24). The game, the first of two against the Boilermakers, is scheduled for an 8 p.m. tip with Gus Johnson and Jim Jackson on the call.
Notes
• When No. 21 Michigan takes on No. 11 Purdue it will mark the Wolverines' fifth game against a ranked opponent. U-M is 3-1 against the top 25.
• Michigan is 1-4 against Purdue in its last five games as the Boilermakers were ranked among the top three nationally in each contest. U-M's lone win was an 82-58 upset over the third-ranked Boilermakers at Crisler Center (Feb. 10, 2022). Before those last five games, the Wolverines won five straight over the Boilermakers.
• U-M is 26-56 all-time in West Lafayette. U-M's last win was four years ago when the No. 7 Wolverines made it back-to-back victories in Mackey Arena with a 70-53 win on Jan. 22, 2021.
• The game marks the first of two between Michigan and Purdue. The Boilermakers will return to Ann Arbor on Tuesday (Feb. 11). U-M's other Big Ten home-and-home series will feature Rutgers and Michigan State.
• Michigan and Purdue play for the 18th time when both are ranked. The last ranked vs. ranked game was in 2018 when No. 7 U-M defeated No. 19 Purdue, 76-57, at Crisler (Dec. 1). Overall, U-M holds an 8-9 record when both are ranked.
• Michigan heads to West Lafayette after back-to-back overtime games. First, U-M fell, 84-81, at Minnesota after Dawson Garcia's 40-foot last-second attempt banked in. In a game that featured 19 lead changes and 10 ties, the Wolverines bounced back with an 80-76 OT win over Northwestern at Crisler Center.
• All five Michigan starters average in double figures -- Vladislav Goldin (16.4), Tre Donaldson (12.6), Danny Wolf (12.5), Roddy Gayle Jr. (11.8) and Nimari Burnett (10.7). They have started 17 of 18 games.
• Shooting 64.6 percent, Goldin ranks eighth nationally and third in the Big Ten behind Indiana's Oumar Ballo (66.9 percent) and Iowa's Owen Freeman (64.9 percent).
• With 11 double-digit rebounding games, Wolf ranks 12th nationally and second in the Big Ten behind Indiana's Oumar Ballo (10.3 rpg). With eight double-doubles, Wolf is second in the Big Ten behind Northwestern's Brooks Barnhizer (9).
• Goldin has 12 consecutive games scoring double figures, with five games of 20-plus points and two of 30-plus in his last four, including a career-best 36 at UCLA.
• Burnett (38) and Donaldson (33) lead U-M from long range. Burnett has a three-pointer in seven straight and produced 20 of his 38 during the stretch.
• Goldin has seven three-pointers over his last six games, including a career-best three against Northwestern. He is 9-for-16 (56.3 percent) -- the first makes and attempts of his career.
• Fresh off a season-best four blocks against Northwestern, Goldin leads U-M with 35. He has at least a block in 16 consecutive games, with eight with two-plus.
