ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 24th-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team (11-3; 3-0 B1G) will conclude its West Coast trip with a stop at 22nd-ranked UCLA (11-3; 2-1 Big Ten) and the famed Pauley Pavilion on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST). The game will air on Peacock with Terry Gannon and former Fab Five member Jalen Rose on the call.
Notes
• Michigan opened its West Coast trip with an 85-74 victory at USC (Jan. 4) in the Wolverines' first-ever visit to the Galen Center. Now, the Wolverines will conclude their week-long trip to Los Angeles facing UCLA (Jan. 7).
• In the 20th meeting with the Bruins, the Wolverines are 6-13. U-M plays UCLA for the first time since the 2021 Elite Eight at Lucas Oil Stadium. The No. 1-seeded Wolverines fell 51-49 to No. 11-seeded UCLA. Despite a pair of Franz Wagner free throws in the final minute bringing the Wolverines within one, U-M missed on its final two possessions and fell.
• Michigan is 1-6 at Pauley Pavilion. U-M's lone win was in 2002 -- an 81-76 decision (Dec. 28). Daniel Horton drained seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 points, while Bernard Robinson Jr. and LaVell Blanchard each had 18.
• UCLA, who had wins over Washington (69-58) and Oregon (73-71) to start its first Big Ten season, restarted conference play at Nebraska (Jan. 4) and suffered a 66-58 defeat at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
• Scoring in double figures in four of his last five games, Nimari Burnett's 10.1-point average adds even more balance to the Maize and Blue scoring as five Wolverines are now averaging in double figures.
• Michigan is shooting 51.3 percent from the field. Five Wolverines are shooting better than 50 percent from the field, led by Vladislav Goldin's 67.6, which is tops in the Big Ten and fifth nationally.
• Michigan leads the Big Ten and is fourth nationally in effective field goal percentage, which adjusts field goal percentage to account for the fact that three-point field goals are worth more points than two-point field goals.
• All five Wolverine starters have reached double-figures in the last two games.
• The Wolverines have 39 three-pointers over their last three games (45.8 percent), including the recent program-record-tying 19 against Western Kentucky. In the four games prior to this stretch, U-M made 22 total and shot 24.1 percent. This season, U-M had 10-plus three-pointers in eight of 14 games.
• Michigan has lost its three games by a total of five points. U-M fell to Wake Forest by two (72-70; Nov. 10 in the Deacon-Wolverine Challenge), Arkansas by two (89-87; Dec. 10 at the Jimmy V Classic) and No. 14 Oklahoma by one (87-86; Dec. 18 at the Jumpman Invitational). U-M has won its games with a +16.9 margin.
