ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Women's Basketball Coach Kim Barnes Arico and the University of Michigan women's basketball program announced that the Wolverines will honor the careers of Diane Dietz (No. 21, 1979-82), Katelynn Flaherty Yates (No. 3, 2015-18) and Naz Hillmon (No. 00, 2019-22) by raising their jerseys to the rafters at Crisler Center.
Dietz will be recognized when Michigan hosts Wisconsin on Jan. 11, with Flaherty's honoring set for Jan. 25 against USC and Hillmon's ceremony set for Feb. 15 against Michigan State.
No. 21 -- Diane Dietz, 1979-82
Dietz was the program's first 2,000-point scorer and held that distinction for more than 30 years until Flaherty topped the mark during the 2016-17 season. She still ranks fourth all-time in scoring with 2,076 points -- reaching the mark before the advent of the three-point line. Dietz is second all-time in 30-point games (11) and in field goals made (940), as one of two players with at least 900 made field goals. Her 45-point output against Illinois on Feb. 27, 1982, stood as the program record, making her the only player to score more than 40 points in a game, until Hillmon went for 50 against Ohio State (Jan. 21, 2021). She also graduated as the program record holder in steals (229), currently ranking fourth in program history.
One of two Michigan athletes inducted into the Academic All-America Hall of Fame (2009), Dietz was a three-time Academic All-American during her playing career as one of 10 Wolverines with three honors. She was Michigan's first female recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1982, considered the most prestigious honor a Big Ten student-athlete can receive. She was inducted into the Michigan Athletics Hall of Honor in 1996 and is a member of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, getting inducted in 2019.
No. 3 -- Katelynn Flaherty Yates, 2015-18
Flaherty is the all-time leading scorer in Michigan basketball history -- men or women -- with 2,776 points over her four-year career. The 2018 Michigan Female Athlete of the Year, she also holds program records for field goals made (984), three-point field goals made (410), double-figure scoring games (127) and 30-point games (13). Upon her graduation, she was ranked second all-time in NCAA history in three-pointers made and was just the second player in Division I history to hit at least 400.
She helped Michigan to the 2017 WNIT title and back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years in 2018. Flaherty was a three-time consensus All-Big Ten first teamer by both the coaches and the media, while also earning three consecutive WBCA All-Region honors to also pick up honorable mention All-America laurels. Flaherty also earned 2018 All-America honorable mention by the Associated Press, becoming the first Wolverine to earn AP honorable mention. One of five finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award for the nation's top point guard in 2018, Flaherty also won the Marines 3-Point Championship following her senior year.
No. 00 -- Naz Hillmon, 2019-22
The first All-American in program history, Hillmon holds the distinction of being the only Wolverine in Michigan basketball history -- man or woman -- with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Hillmon graduated as the program leader in rebounds (1,063), double-doubles (52) and free throws made (487), still ranking first in all three categories. She is second all-time in scoring with 2,183 points, playing 21 fewer games than all-time leading scorer Flaherty.
Hillmon was a two-time (2021, 2022) first-team All-American by the WBCA, USBWA, The Athletic and Sports Illustrated, while earning first-team honors from the Associated Press and Wooden Award as a senior in 2022. She was a four-time All-Big Ten first-team selection, becoming the first player in program history with four first-team honors. She is one of two players in Big Ten history to be named the Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Sixth Player of the Year in a career. A two-time Michigan Female Athlete of the Year, she helped Michigan to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament twice -- the Sweet 16 in 2021 and Elite Eight in 2022. Hillmon was selected by the Atlanta Dream with the 15th pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft and was named the 2025 WNBA Sixth Player of the Year.
