Michigan Moves to 2-0 with Rout of Harvard

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team never trailed, turning 26 turnovers into 27 points en route to an 84-55 win over Harvard on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 9) at Crisler Center. With the victory, Michigan moves to 2-0 on the season.
Olivia Olson led a trio of Wolverines in double figures with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor, adding four rebounds in just 21 minutes of action. Mila Holloway contributed 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Syla Swords added 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Brooke Quarles Daniels filled the stat sheet with seven points, four rebounds and five assists. U-M shot 55.4 percent (31-for-56) from the floor while holding Harvard to 32.7 percent (18-for-55).
Swords connected on a triple right off the tip to give Michigan an early lead. Harvard tied the game at 7-7 with 7:13 left in the first quarter before U-M uncorked a 17-0 run that began with an Olson layup. Five Wolverines scored during the run, which was capped by a Holloway jumper with seven seconds remaining for a 24-7 Michigan advantage. A Harvard free throw with less than a second left broke the drought as U-M held a 24-8 lead after 10 minutes.
The Crimson matched the Wolverines in the second quarter with each team scoring 16 points. Michigan's lead shrunk to 10 (34-24) with 1:01 left before halftime, but Ciara Byars came off the bench to score back-to-back buckets. Quarles-Daniels then converted off a steal from Swords for a quick 6-0 spurt to end the quarter, pushing Michigan's advantage to 40-24 at the break.
U-M continued to push the pace in the second half, scoring 21 points in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth. Olson led the way with nine second-half points, while Holloway added eight and three other Wolverines scored at least five.
Michigan led by as many as 29 points in the closing minutes, with all 14 Wolverines seeing action in the win.
The Wolverines return to action next Saturday (Nov. 15), facing Notre Dame in the Shamrock Classic at Wayne State Fieldhouse. The game is set for 4 p.m. and will air nationally on NBC.
