ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team defeated Oregon behind five double-figure scorers and 25 points off turnovers in its annual Breast Cancer Awareness game on Wednesday (Feb. 5) at Crisler Center.
Leaders and Best
Will Tschetter led the way with 17 points in only 17 minutes. Michigan's bigs, Danny Wolf and Vladislav Goldin, dropped 15 points each, while Wolf recorded his 10th double-double of the season by adding 12 rebounds. Nimari Burnett had 13 points, and Tre Donaldson added 12 and five assists.
The five double-figure scorers mark the first time Michigan has had that many since its win over Washington (Jan. 12).
Second Half
An and-1 play by Wolf kicked off four straight field goals for Michigan (17-5, 9-2 Big Ten), who led by 12 with 14:34 left. Tschetter added to his 10 first-half points with two second-chance layups, but Oregon (16-7, 5-7 Big Ten) answered defensively, forcing five U-M turnovers in under three minutes.
The Ducks made four straight baskets on an 8-0 run to shrink U-M's lead to four, 70-66, with 7:44 on the clock. Both teams soon went on scoring droughts, with U-M going scoreless for more than five minutes until a Goldin layup gave Michigan a 76-72 lead with 1:57 remaining.
A crucial rebound from Burnett led to two made Wolf free throws to put Michigan ahead 78-74 with 24 seconds remaining. Foul shots the rest of the way gave Michigan its final four-point advantage.
First Half
Donaldson kicked off the scoring for the Wolverines, who found themselves in a 7-2 hole early after four misses. Tschetter provided a much-needed spark as he entered the game with 14 minutes to go, quickly draining a three-pointer and initiating a stretch of three consecutive U-M shots to lead by four, 13-9.
Oregon led briefly by one before a Burnett three-point jumper sparked an 11-0 run for Michigan, who turned two Oregon turnovers into three-point baskets to lead by 10, 26-16, with just over eight minutes remaining. The Ducks continued to match each Wolverine basket, going on a 10-2 run with 2:07 on the clock to cut the lead to one, 37-36, at 2:07. A Goldin dunk made for a strong end to the half, giving Michigan a 41-36 edge.
Tschetter and Wolf entered double figures with four minutes remaining in the half, with Wolf totaling eight rebounds in the first 20 minutes. U-M forced six turnovers, converting them into 13 points. The Wolverines shot 16-for-34 (47.2 percent) from the field, compared to Oregon's 15-for-33 (44.4 percent).
