
Olson Named B1G Freshman of the Year, U-M Quartet Honored

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Olivia Olson was named the co-Freshman of the Year and was joined on the All-Big Ten second team by Syla Swords to highlight the University of Michigan women's basketball team's postseason honors announced by the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday afternoon (March 4).
Olson shares the Freshman of the Year honor by the coaches with Ohio State's Jaloni Cambridge. Swords and Olson were each named to the All-Big Ten second team and all-freshman team by both the coaches and the media. Jordan Hobbs was an honorable mention by both the coaches and media, with Mila Holloway earning honorable mention by the media.

Olson is the third Michigan freshman to earn Freshman of the Year honors, joining Naz Hillmon (media, 2019) and Stacey Thomas (1997). Olson, who recorded a pair of double-doubles, finished the regular season ranked 11th in the Big Ten in scoring at 16.0 points per game. In addition to her scoring, she averaged 5.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 29.9 minutes per game. Olson scored in double figures in all but five games, recording seven 20-point games and a 30-point contest. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice during the season.
Swords burst onto the scene in Michigan's season opener, recording a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double against No. 1 South Carolina (Nov. 4). Swords tallied a pair of double-doubles, averaging 15.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0 steals per game. She scored in double figures 21 times, recording eight 20-point games and a 30-point contest. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times and the Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Week following her debut against the Gamecocks.

Holloway
Hobbs earned honorable mention by both the coaches and the media after elevating her game as a senior. Hobbs has started all 29 contests, averaging 13.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 31.0 minutes per game. She has a pair of double-doubles and scored in double figures 22 times with two 20-point games. This marks the first conference honors for Hobbs in her career after starting every contest the last two seasons. She was also Michigan's Sportsmanship honoree.
Holloway snagged All-Big Ten honorable mention from the media after starting all 29 games at point guard. She averaged 10.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 28.7 minutes per game. She was the only freshman in the Big Ten to average at least 10 points per game and four assists per game. Holloway had a pair of 20-point games and scored in double figures 12 times.
Michigan earned the No. 5 seed for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament after going 20-9 in the regular season and 11-7 in conference action. U-M will begin tournament action on Thursday (March 6) against either Minnesota or Washington at approximately 2:30 p.m. The 2025 tournament is being held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
