
Michigan to Head to Hoosier State for Indiana, Purdue

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (15-3, 8-0 Big Ten) hits the road for a pair of conference matches, heading to the state of Indiana. First up for U-M is a Saturday date (April 5) with the Hoosiers (7-10, 1-6 Big Ten) before closing the weekend out at Purdue (10-4, 4-3 Big Ten) on Sunday (April 6). Both matches are set for noon starts.
Notes
• Michigan stayed at No. 3 in this week's ITA rankings following a pair of home wins last weekend. U-M has been in the top six of the rankings since the computer rankings started on Feb. 20. The Wolverines have faced 10 teams currently ranked in the top 25.
• Michigan is atop the Big Ten standings with an 8-0 record. Wisconsin is the only other unbeaten team, checking in with a 7-0 record. Michigan and Wisconsin do not face each other as the Big Ten schedule consists of 13 matches.
• U-M has won 36 straight Big Ten regular-season matches, dating back to the 2021-22 season. U-M knocked off Illinois and Northwestern this past weekend at the Varsity Tennis Center.
• The Wolverines have won 17 of the last 18 matches against the Hoosiers after a 4-0 win last season in Ann Arbor.
• Michigan went 2-0 last season against Purdue, knocking off the Boilermakers in the regular season and the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. U-M is 50-12 all-time against Purdue.
• U-M has four ranked singles players in No. 4 Julia Fliegner, No. 29 Piper Charney, No. 38 Lily Jones and No. 71 Emily Sartz-Lunde. Michigan has three ranked doubles teams, highlighted by the No. 20-ranked pair of Jones and Jessica Bernales. Bernales and Charney come in at No. 27 together, with Fliegner and Reese Miller ranked No. 67.
• Fliegner is up to 106 singles wins in her illustrious career, putting her eighth all-time at U-M in career victories.
• As a team, Michigan is 60-19 in singles action during dual matches. Charney leads the way with 13 wins, with Fliegner and Jones in double figures with 10 each.
• Head coach Ronni Bernstein is in her 18th season as the head coach, holding a 538-195 overall coaching record. She is currently eighth nationally among active coaches in wins. Bernstein ranks 18th all-time in victories.
• U-M has just four regular-season matches remaining after this weekend. Next up for the Maize and Blue is a two-match homestand against two of the newest Big Ten teams, Oregon (April 12) and Washington (April 13).
