BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Four members of the University of Michigan water polo team were named to Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Conference teams, the conference announced on Wednesday, April 23. Ari Karampetsou was a first-team selection, while Issy Jackson landed on the second team. Goalie Sophia Bunnell and attacker Matilda Waugh earned honorable mention recognition.
Karampetsou made an immediate impact in her debut season with the Maize and Blue. The freshman led the Wolverines with 58 goals and added 39 assists on the season. Her two-way play and composure in the pool were key to the Wolverines' success, earning her a spot on the All-Conference First Team.
Jackson was one of Michigan's most reliable players on both offense and defense. The junior totaled 47 points and played a key role in the team's defensive setup. Her steady play in key moments earned her a spot on the All-Conference Second Team — the first conference honor of her career.Â
Bunnell was a steady presence in goal for the Wolverines, helping lead the defense with big saves and consistent play. The freshman marked nine games with 10 or more saves, including strong performances against ranked teams, and earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
Waugh made an impact on both ends of the pool as a freshman. She tallied at least one steal in every game and added solid offensive production. Her all-around play earned her Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
U-M opens its postseason at the CWPA Championship on Friday, April 25, against St. Francis at 6 p.m. at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
