EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan baseball dropped its series against No. 15-ranked Oregon after falling 13-3 to the Ducks in eight innings on Saturday afternoon (April 5) at PK Park.
Multi-hit days from Brayden Jefferis and Cole Caruso paced the Wolverines (16-14, 7-7 Big Ten). Jefferies went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Caruso tallied three hits with a run and two RBIs. U-M used seven pitchers in the contest, with Dylan Vigue (0-2) drawing the start and shouldering the loss after allowing six runs on just two hits with four strikeouts and seven walks over 4.2 innings.
Michigan threatened in the first inning with back-to-back singles from Benny Casillas and Jefferis to open the game but were stranded after a double play and a strikeout kept U-M off the board. Oregon (22-8, 10-4 Big Ten) put its first two runners on, and both came around a two-out double to take a 2-0 lead.
Jefferis led off the fourth inning being hit by a pitch, and Caruso launched a ball over the wall in right-center field with two outs to tie the game at two with his team-leading ninth home run. U-M took a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Greg Pace Jr. scored from second on a Jefferis RBI single.
The Ducks responded with a big fifth inning, scoring four runs on just one hit to take a 6-3 lead. Max Debiec came on with two outs and following a pair of walks, got the final out of the frame to leave the bases loaded.
Oregon added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth, putting up three runs on three hits, including a two-run home run to push the score to 9-3.
After a scoreless Michigan seventh inning, the Ducks added three runs in the home half of the frame to go up 12-3. U-M went down in order in the eighth, and Oregon scored the walk-off run on a wild pitch to complete the run-rule victory.
Michigan will wrap up its series against No. 15-ranked Oregon at 1 p.m. PT on Sunday (April 6) at PK Park. The finale will be streamed live on B1G+.
