ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan opens the 2025 season by hosting the Wolverine Invitational on Sunday and Monday (Sept. 7-8) at the U-M Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It will be U-M's first home event since 2022 and serves as a preview for one of six NCAA regionals in the spring. Fifteen teams will compete in the 54-hole format (36-18) and the course will be set up for a par 71 and 6,227 yards.
Notes
• The Wolverine Invitational features a 15-team field, with selected teams also bringing individuals. The field includes Chattanooga, Florida International, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Kennesaw State, Kent State, host Michigan, Notre Dame, Oakland, Purdue, Rutgers, South Florida, Virginia and Wisconsin. Individuals will be from Michigan (3), Virginia (1), Purdue (1) and Illinois (1).
• Michigan's starting five includes senior Lauren Sung, freshman Reese Ng, sophomore Mimi Guo, junior Grace Wang and sophomore Thomasine Bartholdson. Seniors Mara Janess and Sydney Sung, along with freshman Vanessa Zhang, will play as individuals. Freshman Jaymie Ng will not compete due to injury.
• Michigan will host the Wolverine Invitational for the first time since 2021. This year's tournament marks the 23rd edition of the event in program history and the 33rd all-time home tournament for U-M. Across its 32 previous home events, Michigan has claimed 11 titles, most recently in 2021. That victory was highlighted by a program-record 54-hole team score of 851 (-1) at the U-M Golf Course, securing a 12-shot win over runner-up Virginia (863).
• The Wolverine Invitational will serve as a fall preview of the U-M Golf Course as Michigan will host one of six NCAA regional sites in May -- the second time in four years under head coach Jan Dowling.
• After a season without a single senior on the roster, Michigan will be led by a trio of experienced seniors: Janess, Lauren and Sydney Sung. Janess emerged as the team's top performer last season, competing in all 11 events, earning an individual invitation to the NCAA Columbus Regional, and posting a career-low scoring average of 73.94. Lauren started nine of 10 events and recorded a career-low average of 74.00, along with six top-20 finishes. Her twin sister, Sydney, competed in eight of nine tournaments and posted a career-best average of 75.04.
• This season, the Maize and Blue welcome three international newcomers -- Ng (Philippines), Zhang (Beijing, China) and Jaymie Ng (Singapore) -- who will look to break into the starting lineup and inject the Wolverines with a fresh wave of young talent.
• After the home event, the Maize and Blue will travel to Aurora, Ontario, for the Canadian Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 22-23), where U-M will serve as co-host with Kent State and Golf Canada at Beacon Hall Golf Club. The fall season continues with the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah (Oct. 6-7) and wraps up with a fifth straight appearance at North Carolina's Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 17-19).
