
Michigan to Continue Homestand With Ranked Pair

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (1-1) continues dual-match action this week, hosting No. 15 Virginia (5-1) on Friday (Jan. 30) at 5 p.m. and No. 4 Auburn (9-0) on Monday (Feb. 2) at 6 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center. Admission for both matches is free. Friday's match is Michigan's Pride Match and a Wolverine Kids Club Day.
Notes
• Michigan continues dual-match action at the Varsity Tennis Center this weekend, hosting a pair of top-15 teams in No. 15 Virginia and No. 4 Auburn. The teams mark U-M's second and third ranked foes of the season.
• Friday's match against Virginia will be the sixth time the teams have faced off since February 2023. U-M has won the last five against the Hoos to take the lead in the series at 7-6.
• The Wolverines picked up a 4-2 win at Virginia last season, with singles wins from Julia Fliegner, Emily Sartz-Lunde, Reese Miller and Jessica Bernales to rally after dropping the doubles point.
• Michigan is 1-3 all-time against Auburn, last facing the Tigers in the 2018 ITA National Team Indoor Championship. U-M recorded a 7-0 shutout of Auburn the last time the Tigers came to Ann Arbor on Jan. 29, 2010.
• U-M had two players make their dual-match debut last weekend in Laura Rahnel and Gabriella Lindgren. Rahnel played at No. 6 against Penn (Jan. 24), with Lindgren playing in both the doubles and singles lineups in both matches.
• Lily Jones became the first Wolverine this year to reach the 20-win mark in singles after recording a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 in Michigan's win over Penn (Jan. 24). She is 20-5 on the season, reaching 20 wins for the fourth straight season. She picked up the 100th win of her career during the NCAA Singles Championship and is now tied for 10th all-time at Michigan with 104 singles wins.
• Michigan has four ranked singles players in Charney (No. 3), Jones (No. 32), Miller (No. 80) and Bernales (No. 85). Charney and Jones each earned ITA All-America honors in singles this past fall by reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship.
• U-M is off next weekend before returning to action on Sunday, Feb. 15, hosting No. 9 NC State at the Varsity Tennis Center.
