ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (6-1) will return home on Saturday (Feb. 14) to host No. 11 Springfield (6-5) and Arizona State (8-0) at Cliff Keen Arena at noon. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• The Wolverines topped Illinois, 318.550-306.700, on Feb. 7 to open Big Ten competition. Michigan took a narrow half-point lead (52.500-52.000) into the second rotation before extending its lead to 159.700-152.350 at the halfway point. Illinois had a solid vault performance, but a low score on the parallel bars and high bar was enough for Michigan to widen the gap and secure the win.
• Fred Richard took home event titles on the pommel horse (14.050), still rings (13.800) and parallel bars (13.900). Freshman Adam Lakomy had another impressive showing, scoring career highs on floor exercise (13.600) and vault (14.300), while Jake Islam recorded a season-high 13.550 on floor.
• Richard was named B1G Gymnast of the Week, while Lakomy was named B1G Freshman of the Week.
• U-M improved to No. 3 in the latest rankings with an average score of 315.850, sitting behind Oklahoma (323.613) and Stanford (322.191). The team remains sixth in the nation on floor, second on pommel horse, sixth on vault and eighth on parallel bars, while improving to No. 5 on high bar.
• Aaronson Mansberger is second in the NCAA and first in the Big Ten on pommel horse with an average score of 14.163, just 0.020 points behind nation-leading Colby Aranda of Oklahoma. Akshay Puri remains in the top 10 in the nation on still rings, sitting at No. 9 (13.562), and Carson Eshleman has entered the high bar rankings at No. 5 (13.725). Richard is ranked in the top 10 in three events -- coming in fourth on pommel horse (14.075), eighth on still rings (13.600) and fourth on parallel bars (13.725).
• Springfield is 6-5 on the season, defeating William & Mary, 310.550-303.100, on Feb. 1. The Pride remains at No. 11 in the overall rankings with an average score of 305.100 after posting a season-high score at William & Mary. Sophomore Devon Felsenstein is fifth in the NCAA on the pommel horse (14.030). Last season, the Wolverines topped Springfield twice in a pair of tri-meets.
• Arizona State competes in the GymACT and sits at No. 2 in the rankings. The team leads the GymACT on floor (51.267), coming in second on the pommel horse (48.113) and parallel bars (48.900). The Maize and Blue last faced AZ State in 2024, defeating the Sun Devils in a tri-meet that also Springfield.
• Michigan will get a break from collegiate competition, heading to Louisville, Ky., for the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup on Feb. 21-23.
