LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The University of Michigan baseball team fell to No. 1 UCLA, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon (March 15) at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Michigan (9-9, 0-3 Big Ten) struggled offensively over the first five innings, recording just two baserunners during that span. Both came in the third inning when Evan Haeger drew a one-out walk followed by a single from Drew Culbertson, but two strikeouts stranded the runners.

UCLA (17-2, 6-0 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the first on a sacrifice fly. Shane Brinham stranded the bases loaded in the second with a strikeout, but the Bruins doubled their lead with another sacrifice fly in the third. UCLA added a solo home run in the fourth and another run in the fifth. Tyler Finkbeiner entered with one out in the fifth and recorded a popout and a strikeout to strand the bases loaded.

The Wolverines had another opportunity in the sixth after Culbertson drew a leadoff walk, but a fielder's choice, strikeout and flyout ended the threat. UCLA extended its lead in the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits to take a 7-0 advantage.

U-M opened the eighth with a single from Carson Luna. Two walks and two hit-by-pitches brought home two runs to trim the deficit to 7-2.

Justin Brown pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth to give Michigan a chance, but the Wolverines managed only a leadoff walk from Josh Campbell in the ninth as UCLA secured the 7-2 win.

Michigan returns home to begin its first homestand of the season, starting with a midweek contest against Michigan State on Wednesday (March 18) at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on B1G+.
