DALLAS, Texas -- University of Michigan junior women's tennis player Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) dropped her first-round match in competition at the 1999 Rolex National Indoor Championships today (Thursday, Feb. 4).
Lund, ranked 28th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in singles, lost to 33rd-ranked Karen Goldstein of Duke in straight sets (7-5, 6-1). The loss drops Lund into the consolation bracket, where she will meet William & Mary's Carolijn van Rossum at 11 a.m. CST on Friday (Feb. 5). Van Rossum lost 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 to California's Anita Kurimay.
Lund is one of 32 players in the women's singles field at the event, held at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas. She became the first player in Michigan women's tennis history to qualify for the event and was the only player from the Big Ten Conference selected to the field.
Lund has a 9-7 singles record this year and is 6-2 against regional opponents.
