
U-M Set for Return to VTC for Trio of Matches

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (12-6, 9-1 Big Ten) will return home for the final time in the regular season this weekend, hosting a trio of matches at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M will first host Maryland (14-4, 6-3 Big Ten) on Saturday (April 11) at noon before hosting a doubleheader on Sunday (April 12) against Rutgers (8-11, 1-8 Big Ten) at noon and Oakland (6-9) at 4 p.m. Michigan will honor its senior class of Lily Jones and Bayley Sheinin prior to the match against Maryland as part of Senior Day.

• Michigan returns home to the VTC for the final time during the regular season, playing a pair of Big Ten matches and wrapping up non-conference action with a match against Oakland. Â
• Michigan will honor its senior class of Lily Jones and Bayley Sheinin prior to its match against Maryland on Saturday (April 11) at noon. The two Wolverines have won three Big Ten championships and two Big Ten Tournament titles during their time in Ann Arbor.
• U-M stayed in the top 25 of the ITA team rankings for the third straight week, coming in at No. 15 after picking up wins at Illinois (April 4) and Northwestern (April 12) last weekend. Michigan is one of five Big Ten schools ranked in the top 25.
• The Wolverines have won nine straight Big Ten matches after dropping their conference opener at No. 3 Ohio State on March 6.
• Michigan is one of three teams with just one conference loss as the regular season winds down. U-M is 9-1 in Big Ten action, with Ohio State and USC checking in at 8-1. U-M has matches remaining against Maryland, Rutgers and Michigan State to close out the regular season.
• Maryland and Rutgers are coming to the Varsity Tennis Center for regular-season matches for the first time since April 14-15, 2018. Both teams were in Ann Arbor when U-M hosted the 2024 Big Ten Tournament, but the teams did not face each other.
• U-M did not face Maryland during the regular season last year but did come away with a 4-3 win over the Terrapins in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan is 17-0 all-time against the Terps.
• The Wolverines are 9-0 all-time against Rutgers, with U-M recording a 4-0 win the last time these two teams met on March 24, 2024.
Michigan and Oakland are meeting for the second time in program history, the first coming on Jan. 22, 2022, a 7-0 Michigan win at the Varsity Tennis Center.
• U-M is 9-1 when winning the doubles point and 3-5 without it. Michigan most recently took a 4-1 win at Northwestern (April 5) without the doubles point.
• Jones became the first Wolverine to reach the 20-win mark in singles this year after recording a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 in Michigan's win over Penn (Jan. 24). She is 28-8 on the season, reaching 20 wins for the fourth straight season. She picked up the 100th win of her career during the NCAA Singles Championship and is now tied for fifth all-time at Michigan with 113 singles wins.Â
• Michigan has a trio of ranked singles players in Piper Charney (No. 7), Jones (No. 25) and Reese Miller (No. 109). Charney and Jones each earned ITA All-America honors in singles this past fall by reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship.
• Michigan has three players who have reached the 20-win mark on the singles court in Jones (28), Miller (25) and Emily Sartz-Lunde (23).
• Head coach Ronni Bernstein is in her 19th season as the head coach, holding a 561-202 overall coaching record. She is 393-109 as the Michigan head coach, leading Michigan to 12 Big Ten championships and six Big Ten tournament titles.
• Michigan wraps up the regular season next weekend at Michigan State, heading to East Lansing to face the Spartans on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m.
