
Wolverines Outslugged in Midweek Matchup at Miami (Ohio)

OXFORD, Ohio -- The University of Michigan baseball team dropped a midweek contest to Miami (Ohio), 12-10, on Tuesday afternoon (April 21) at McKie Field at Hayden Park.
Trailing 12-8 in the ninth, the Wolverines mounted a comeback started by a one-out Jack Laffitte single, while Cooper Mullens was hit by a pitch. Evan Haeger reached on a fielder's choice, and an error loaded the bases with two out. Colby Turner singled through the left side, scoring Laffitte and Mullens, but a strikeout ended the game.
Michigan (24-15) jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs on four hits. Turner drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on a double from Noah Miller. Both runners scored on a double from Cade Ladehoff. Brayden Jefferis singled, and Ladehoff scored on an error. Brenden Stressler added a two-out single, but a flyout ended the inning.
Miami (25-13) answered with three home runs in the second to tie the game and added two runs in the third and four in the fourth to take a 9-4 lead. The Wolverines scored in the top of the fourth when Greg Pace Jr. tripled and scored on a single from Drew Culbertson. Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth before combining for six runs in the sixth inning.
The Maize and Blue scored four runs on three hits in the sixth. Culbertson reached on a one-out walk before Turner extended his hitting streak with a home run to left-center field. After an error allowed Miller to reach, Ladehoff homered to cut the RedHawks lead to 9-8. Miami answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and added another in the seventh to take a 12-8 lead.
U-M left two runners on base in the eighth, and Slade Moore held Miami scoreless in the bottom of the inning to give the Wolverines a chance in the ninth.
The Wolverines will return to action at home on Wednesday (April 22) at 4 p.m. against Bowling Green at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The contest will be streamed on B1G+.
