Josh Phegley enters his second year with the Michigan program. This season, Phegley will serve as an assistant coach after serving as the director of player development last season.
Prior to joning Michigan, he spent 12 seasons in professional baseball.Â
Phegley played for Head Coach Tracy Smith and Associate Head Coach Ben Greenspan at Indiana University from 2007 through 2009. In the 2009 MLB Draft, the Chicago White Sox selected Phegley with the 38th overall pick in the supplemental first-round. He made his MLB debut in 2013 with the White Sox, before being traded to the Oakland A's in 2015. Phegley played 387 games in the major leagues with 35 career home runs and caught the 300th No-Hitter in MLB history. Phegley retired in 2020 after playing with the Chicago Cubs.
Phegley is originally from Terre Haute, Indiana. He is married to his wife Jessica, and they have two kids, Stella and Calvin.
