ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore RHP Bobby Korecky (Saline, Mich./Saline HS) pitched six solid innings and senior CF Rob Bobeda (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) had a double and a triple as Michigan defeated Bowling Green 6-2 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday (March 29). Michigan (7-13-1) snapped a five-game losing streak and recorded its first win in Ray Fisher Stadium in 2000.

Korecky (2-1) allowed six hits and both BGSU runs in his six innings of work, while sophomore LHP Kirk Taylor (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) pitched two scoreless innings and junior RHP Vince Pistilli (Highland, Ind./Highland HS) worked the ninth inning. Pistilli (1-3, 5.04) is the tentative starter for the Sunday (April 2) getaway game at Indiana.

The Wolverines, who never led in their Big Ten weekend series vs. Minnesota (March 24-26), scored four times in the first inning off Falcon starter and loser Joe Cheney (1-3). Freshman 2B Jordan Cantalamessa (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek HS) opened the game with his seventh double of the season and he scored moments later on Brock Koman's (Pueblo, Colo./South HS) infield grounder.

Tri-captain Bobeda knocked in Koman with a triple and later in the inning sophomore 1B Jeff Trzos (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) singled in a run and DH Dan Dombos (Kalamazoo, Mich./Mattawan HS) knocked in the fourth run with a groundout.

Junior 2B Scott Tousa (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands HS) and Koman had back-to-back doubles for a run in the second inning. The final run for the Wolverines came in the fifth as Bobeda doubled and scored on a Trzos single.

SS Nick Elrod paced the Bowling Green offense with three doubles to tie the Falcon single-game record.

Michigan travels to Indiana for Big Ten action vs. the Hoosiers (March 31-April 2), with junior LHP Nick Alexander (Alpena, Mich./Alpena HS) as the probable starter on the mound in the opener (March 31, 3 p.m.). Alexander is 0-0 with a 2.77 ERA.

N O T E S

Jeff Trzos, making his second start at first base, recorded 16 putouts in the victory. He is hitting .444 (4-for-9) and has made five pitching appearances with a 4.61 ERA.

David Parrish (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) did not see action for the second straight game, and he will take a five-game hit streak into the Indiana series.

Michigan's leading hitters (minimum 30 at bats) after Wednesday include: freshman 3B Brock Koman (.350, 28-for-80), senior OF Rob Bobeda (.299, 23-for-77), junior C David Parrish (.290, 20-for-69) and junior 2B/SS Scott Tousa (.264, 19-for-72). Parrish is the leader in Big Ten play for the Wolverines with a .333 average (5-for-15).
