LaRosa Extends Streak but Hatters Top Wolverines

DeLAND, Fla. -- Stetson ran its winning streak to 11 games with a 9-2 win over the University of Michigan baseball team Friday night (March 2) in Melching Field at Conrad Park. Roger Lincoln recorded the win in relief of Stetson All-American Lenny DiNardo, who left after four innings with a 2-1 lead. Lincoln allowed three hits and fanned six in his four innings of work.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning the Wolverines scored off Stetson's ace DiNardo with senior/junior C.J. Ghannam (Farmington, Mich./Harrison HS) driving in the run with a single. Moments later sophomore LF Jordan Cantalamessa (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek HS) collected one of his three hits, but junior/sophomore DH Nate Wright (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew HS) was thrown out at the plate.
Michigan's second run came on a bases-loaded walk to senior 2B Scott Tousa (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands HS) in the ninth inning.
Cantalamessa paced the nine-hit Wolverine attack with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and senior SS Bill LaRosa (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS) extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a single in the first inning.
Stetson (11-1) iced the game with a five-run fifth inning that featured a three-run homer by 3B Brian Snyder. Snyder added a double in the game and Hatter SS Rusty Beale had a 4-for-4 game.
Michigan (3-4) heads to Lakeland, Fla., Saturday night (March 3, 7 p.m.) to face Boston College (1-5) at Henley Field with sophomore LHP Rich Hill (Milton, Mass./Milton HS) scheduled to make the start. Hill is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA.
