LUBBOCK, Texas -- With the winds picking up leading to higher scores, the University of Michigan women's golf team tallied a disappointing 320 total in the second round today (Friday, May 6) at the NCAA Central Regional at the Rawls Course. With Friday's team total, the Wolverines stand in 15th place with a 621 (301-320) 36-hole total.
Despite the team tally, sophomore Brianna Broderick (Richmond, Mo./Richmond HS) used the day to card a three-over 75 as she jumped 20 spots from 26th to put herself in a tie for sixth after 36 holes with a 149 total (74-75). Starting on the back nine in the afternoon session, she had back-to-back bogeys to open her second round. She found a groove and parred the next six holes before her third bogey on No. 17 put her three over par. A birdie on No. 18 followed by another on No. 2 after making the turn gained her two back as she was one over with eight holes left. With the windy conditions she slipped with bogeys on No. 5 and 8 to close out her round and to put her at three over for the day.
Sophomore Ali Stinson (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary) recorded the Wolverines' next best score in the windy conditions as she posted an 80 to give her a 156 36-hole total, putting her in a tie for 57th. Senior Laura Olin (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) is in a tie for 74th at 158 (76-82), while junior Amy Schmucker (Cold Springs, Minn./Rocori HS) and freshman Isabelle Gendreau (St. Georges de Beauce, Quebec/Saint Andrew's School) are both in a tie for 78th at 159. Schmucker has recorded rounds of 76 and 83, while Gendreau has rounds of 75 and 84.
Overall, there is a four-way tie for the top spot as Baylor (302-301), Texas A&M (293-310), Missouri (291-312) and Auburn (294-309) are all atop with 603 totals. Texas' Lisa Ferrero has a two-stroke lead individually as she is at one-under 143 (70-73) after 36 holes. Auburn's Diana Ramage (68-77/145) is in second.
The Wolverines have a final 18 holes of the 54-hole regional remaining as the third and final round will begin Saturday (May 7) with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. CDT. The Maize and Blue will tee off at No. 1 starting at 11:50 a.m. CDT. The top eight teams and the top two individuals on non-qualifying teams advance to the NCAA Championships.

Q U O T E S
Michigan Coach Kathy Teichert
On the second day of the Central Regional ... "I am disappointed with the way we played today. We did not get off to a good start and we did not finish well at all. All in all it was a bad day for the Wolverines. The winds were up a lot and we knew that was going to make scores go up because you could see it with the morning groups. It was a make it or break it round and we just didn't get it done. Now we have our work cut out for us tomorrow. We will need to really play well to have a shot at advancing."
On the play of Brianna Broderick ... "Bri has really been playing well. She has stepped up her game and really focused on playing good, solid and smart golf the last two rounds. She has been a definite bright spot for us."
