JC Sorenson
The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team inked 12 student-athletes as members of the team's 2015 recruiting class last spring. The recruiting class is the fourth full class in the team's varsity history. MGoBlue.com will sit down with each incoming freshman on an individual basis this fall.
Next up is midfielder JC Sorenson, who hails from Summit, New Jersey, via the Pingry School. He played club for Leading Edge prior to his arrival in Ann Arbor, and is regarding as a good athlete with solid lacrosse IQ.
On choosing Michigan ... "I chose Michigan because of the rich blend of academic mix and athletics. It was a pretty easy choice. The Big Ten lacrosse, the football atmosphere, great academics and combination for everything was really just too good to pass up. Visiting multiple times made me love everything about the school, about the tradition, about the legacy they can leave here, it's just a great school."
On his freestyle skiing ability aiding in his lacrosse development ... "A lot of people don't know this but I've been a freestyle skier since about fourth grade. I would ski every weekend at a mountain in New York called Windham. I was on the ski team there and competed in nationals twice in Copper Mountain in Colorado. Freestyle skiing contributed to a lot of my success in lacrosse. Being aware of my surroundings, my balance and coordination were all enhanced. Since I did slopestyle, which was rails and jumps, that really helped me to become aware of the capabilities of my body, balance and coordination -- and that helps a lot with dodging and balance.
On what a successful season would be ... "A successful year for me would be just contributing to the team and getting faster, stronger and better at lacrosse, making great friends and teammates, and excelling in school. Overall, just having a great year. I think school is extremely important and the number one factor for me, so obviously a great school year to start is my number one priority. In terms of lacrosse, just helping my teammates improve and helping us win."
On the assistance from older players in the midfield unit ... "Mikie Schlosser, who is one of our captains this year, has been a tremendous influence on me. He's a great guy, and ever since day one he really stepped in and helped me out -- helped me get accustomed to lacrosse. When we are playing on the field he really pushes me. If I'm ever slacking off, or if he ever thinks I'm slacking off, he's on me right away and helps me become a better player."
