ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team scored the first four goals of the game and never looked back, outscoring Canisius, 8-3, in the first half and, 5-2, in the second stanza, defeating the Griffins, 13-5, on Saturday (Feb. 28) inside Oosterbaan Field House.
U-M led 6-1 at the end of the first quarter, while eight different Wolverines had at least a goal on the afternoon. Junior Kyle Jackson tallied four goals, while goalies Gerald Logan, Robbie Zonino and Tommy Heidt combined to make 14 saves, with 10 coming in the second half.
Aside from Jackson's three goals in the first half, sophomore Ian King tallied a goal and two assists, along with goals from three other Wolverines. In the second quarter, the Wolverines and Griffins traded off goals to keep the Wolverines lead at five going into the half, 8-3.
The five-score margin was the closest Canisius got, as the Maize and Blue came out strong defensively in the second half, holding the Griffins scoreless until 10:01 in the fourth, a stretch that lasted nearly 20 minutes. A pair of scores from sophomore Mikie Schlosser and senior Will Meter increased the lead to 10-3. Michigan outscored Canisius, 3-2, in the fourth to take home a 13-5 victory and their third win of the 2015 season.
Additionally, senior defensive midfielder Thomas Orr led the way with three ground balls for Michigan.
Michigan embarks on its first road trip of 2015, traveling to Jacksonville, Florida, to take on the Dolphins Tuesday (March 3) at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live via ESPN3.
