The University of Michigan baseball team continues its season-opening road trip with a stop in the Sunflower State and a three-game set at Kansas. The trip starts on Friday afternoon (March 13) with a 3 p.m. CDT game at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kansas. The series continues Saturday afternoon (March 14) at 2 p.m. CDT with the series finale on Sunday afternoon (March 15) at 12:05 p.m. CDT (note time change from original 1 p.m.). All three games will be streamed via WatchESPN.com. The Wolverines are coming off taking three of four games at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in South Carolina.
BENEDETTI DRIVES IN 10 IN DH SWEEP -- Sophomore Carmen Benedetti brought in 10 runs in Michigan's doubleheader sweep of Toledo (19-5) and Coastal Carolina (10-4) on March 7. The sophomore had six RBI, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double against the Rockets. The six RBI were the most by a Wolverine since Coley Crank had seven in a win over Jacksonville State on Feb. 19, 2010. Benedetti then went 3-for-5 with four RBI, a run scored and a double in the win over the Chanticleers. He also pitched in the ninth inning, striking out the final two batters of the game. On the season, Benedetti is hitting .368 with seven doubles and 20 RBI.
SCOUTING KANSAS -- The Jayhawks (6-11) fell to Central Michigan, 8-2, on Tuesday afternoon (March 10). Matt McLaughlin and Michael Tinsley each drove in a run against the Chippewas. Colby Wright leads Kansas with a .375 batting average while Dakota Smith has a team-best 14 RBI. On the mound, Drew Morovick has a .203 opponent's batting average.
SERIES VS. KANSAS -- Michigan leads the overall series with Kansas 6-4 heading into this weekend's action. This is a return trip for Kansas after the teams played a pair of games in Ann Arbor on May 17-18, 2014. The Jayhawks won the first game 8-2, scoring six runs in the top of the ninth inning. Michigan came back on its senior day to win 4-0 as four Wolverine hurlers combined for the four-hit shutout. Cole Martin drove in a pair of runs in the win.
U-M HAS SUCCESSFUL SPRING BREAK TRIP -- The Wolverines went 8-1 during their spring break trip, which included true road wins at Stetson and Coastal Carolina and a four-game sweep of Siena. Michigan scored 72 runs in the nine games and hit .344 with a .458 slugging percentage. On the mound, U-M posted a 2.12 ERA and a .186 opponent's batting average. Carmen Benedetti and Jacob Cronenworth both hit .424 on the trip while Keith Lehmann and Brett Adcock combined to pitch 15.2 innings while not allowing an earned run.
ROLLING UP RUNS VS. ROCKETS -- Michigan scored 19 runs in its win over Toledo on March 7. That's the most runs by the Maize and Blue since a 19-9 win over Nebraska on May 18, 2013. U-M had 10 different players garner a hit while Jacob Cronenworth scored four runs. Kevin White belted his first home run of 2015 in the first inning of the contest.
LEHMANN POSTING ZEROES ON THE MOUND -- Sophomore Keith Lehmann has not allowed a run in his last three outings, a span of 18 innings. This included a seven-inning performance against Akron (March 8), giving up just three hits with four strikeouts.
