The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team inked 12 student-athletes as members of the team's 2015 recruiting class last spring. The recruiting class is the fourth full class in the team's varsity history. MGoBlue.com will sit down with each incoming freshman on an individual basis this fall.
Next up is longstick Nick DeCaprio, who attended St. Augustine Prep School in New Jersey and played club for SouthShore Lacrosse. DeCaprio, along with fellow freshman Decker Curran and Gunner Garn, took part in the University of Michigan Summer Bridge Program this summer.
On why he chose Michigan ... "I chose Michigan because I wanted to go to school I would stay at if I had a career ending injury. I would stay here because it is awesome here. The atmosphere is great. I wanted be a part of something new at this lacrosse program."
On the difference between North Jersey and South Jersey lacrosse ... "They are kind of like two separate states, to be honest. We don't play each other in the regular season until the playoffs, so it's kind of like we don't see each other until the end of the year. To be honest, it is a big drop-off from north Jersey to south Jersey. In south Jersey there are probably four competitive teams that compete with all of the north Jersey teams, and I was fortunate enough to be on one of the in my four years of high school. North Jersey definitely has a higher talent level."
On the summer bridge program with two teammates ... "Having fewer kids on the lacrosse team is actually a better thing here, because we get to go out and meet different people. We are not surrounded by the same six guys all the time like (in the past). We hang out with a lot of different sports. Having these these other guys here is awesome, because we all help each other out. Last night, myself and Decker (Curran) stayed in the study session for an hour and we did it together, and Gunner (Garn) is really good at math, so whenever we need help we go to him. We all kind of help each other out."
On what he would consider a successful year ... "I want to have an impact on the team as a freshman in some way, shape, or form. Whether it be playing on the field or making other guys better. We have a really good group of LSM's, and I'm really stoked to learn beside in Aaron Madaisky and Chase Brown, which is going to be cool. Academically, I really want to get into the Ross School this year, so it is going to be a tough two semesters, but hopefully I can pull through with it."
On Michigan Lacrosse workouts ... "It is definitely a lot more tough than any high school workout I did. It is better because we have noticed differences just working out for a couple of weeks. It is going to be a good rest of the summer, and it is going to help us a lot in the fall when we go into the fall and we know what we are doing in the weight room."
