Wolverines to Host Second-Round Matchup in NCAA Tournament

» The 13th-seed Michigan Wolverines secured their sixth NCAA berth in program history to go along with a first-round bye. U-M is 5-0 all-time at home in NCAA Tournament matches, and last earned a berth to the tournament in the 2012 campaign.
» U-M will host Colgate in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on Sunday (Nov. 19) at 5 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium.
» Michigan has dropped back-to-back matches only once this season, falling to then-No. 6 Michigan State, 1-0, in overtime (Sept. 13), followed by a 1-0 loss to then-No. 12 Western Michigan (Sept. 17).

The 13th-seeded, No. 16-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team (12-5-2) will host Colgate in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on Sunday (Nov. 19) at 5 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium.
WOLVERINE BITES
• The Wolverines (12-5-2) secured the sixth NCAA berth in program history, and the first since 2012, after winning the Big Ten regular-season title for the first time. Seeded 13th in the tournament, U-M also earned a first-round bye -- a feat that was last accomplished during the 2010 season. The other seeded team in U-M's bracket pod is fourth-seeded Louisville, which takes on the winner of Cal vs. San Francisco on Sunday (Nov. 19) at 5 p.m.
The tournament consists of 48 teams, with the top-16 seeds receiving byes in the first round of the tournament. The Wolverines are situated in a quadrant that features fourth-seeded Louisville, fifth-seed Akron and 12th-seeded Notre Dame.
• The Wolverines sport an 8-5 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament, and are 5-0 at home, 3-4 on the road, and 0-1 in neutral-site matchups. The five previous appearances came in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2012, with quarterfinal appearances coming in 2003 and 2010. U-M's lone College Cup berth came in 2010.
• U-M enters the week ranked No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, No. 21 in the College Soccer News Top-30 and is No. 16, according to TopDrawerSoccer.com. U-M also checks in at No. 15 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings and No. 3 in the Midwest Regional rankings.
• Sophomore Jack Hallahan leads the team in points (21), goals (seven) and assists (seven) after his two-goal performance in the victory over Northwestern (Nov. 5). The First Team All-Big Ten honoree's seven assists have him tied for fifth in the U-M single-season record books, and he has marked a goal and assist in five matches. His point total ranks No. 2 in the conference, while the goal mark ranks third and assist mark ranks fourth.
• Michigan is No. 4 in the Big Ten in scoring offense (1.58 goals/match), and second in the league in both shots per match (14.84) and No. 28 nationally in corner kicks (6.00/match). Defensively, U-M is third in the league and 65th nationally in scoring defense (1.05 goals/match). Additionally, U-M is 9-2-1 when outshooting teams, 7-2-2 in one-goal matches and 10-0-0 when scoring first in a match on the campaign.
• The Wolverines have utilized 13 different starting lineup combinations due to various circumstances, with only junior tri-captain Robbie Mertz starting all 19 matches. Key contributors in freshman Mohammed Zakyi, sophomore Abdou Samake, and juniors Daniel Mukuna, Francis Atuahene, and Ivo Cerda have all missed a combined 26 matches.
• Atuahene enters the postseason in his best form of the season, scoring in three of the last four matches, including the winning goals against Detroit (Oct. 25) and Maryland (Oct. 29). Overall, he has six goals in 968 minutes of action, which is the top goals-per-match mark in the conference (0.62/match). Atuahene ranks third in the U-M career record books for goals in a career with 24, and fourth in shots on goal (78).
• Michigan has outscored teams, 30-21, including an 11-6 margin in the first half. The program record for fewest goals allowed in a season (20) was set in 2015, and U-M tied the program standard in team goals-against average at 1.05 goals/match. The school record for fewest goals allowed in the first half of action is seven, which was set in the 2011 season.
• The Maize and Blue has played the No. 11 schedule in the country according to the NCAA strength of schedule rankings, highlighted by a 1-1 draw at then-No. 1 Indiana on Sept. 13, and a 2-1 overtime win at No. 9 Maryland on Oct. 29. As a whole, past opposition has combined for a 153-103-38 record (.590), which is the second-strongest mark amongst Big Ten teams, behind Michigan State. The Wolverines are one of five Big Ten teams to be selected for the NCAA Tournament, and one of three seeded squads along with No. 2 Indiana and No. 7 Michigan State.
