ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (2-0) hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to No. 5-ranked Louisville (3-0) for the semifinal round of the Preseason WNIT on Thursday (Nov. 16). Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center.
• Senior Katelynn Flaherty continues to put her name in the Michigan and Big Ten record book. On the career front, Flaherty is only nine points away from passing Diane Dietz to become the program leader in scoring. Dietz (1978-82) set the record with 2,076 points, which has stood since her graduation in 1982. Flaherty enters the game with 2,068 points as one of six Wolverines between the men's and women's programs to score at least 2,000 points. She also has 298 career triples and is two away from becoming the seventh player in Big Ten history to reach 300 three-pointers.
• Junior Hallie Thome started her junior season on a high note, recording the seventh double-double of her career with 15 points and 12 rebounds against George Mason (Nov. 10). She followed that up with 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting against Liberty (Nov. 12), making her one of three Wolverines to reach double figures in the scoring column in both games this season.
• Michigan Athletics is taking over Louisville this weekend, with four teams in action in the Derby City. The Wolverines start the action with the first competition between the quartet on Thursday (Nov. 16). The field hockey team is in the Final Four, playing on Friday (Nov. 17) and both the men's and women's cross country teams are running in the national championship race on Saturday (Nov. 18). All four teams are scheduled to travel down to Louisville together on Wednesday (Nov. 15).
• Louisville (3-0) is up to No. 5 in this week's AP poll after knocking off Ohio State, 95-90, in overtime on Sunday (Nov. 12). UL has advanced to the semifinals of the WNIT after wins over SEMO (80-40) and Toledo (90-55). The Cardinals are led by a trio of double-figure scorers in Asia Durr (23.0 ppg), Jazmine Jones (13.0 ppg) and Myisha Hines-Allen (12.3 ppg, 12.0 rpg). Durr scored 47 points in Louisville's OT win over Ohio State (Nov. 12). Michigan and Louisville have not met on the hardwood since 1980, with the series tied at 2-2.
• With Louisville's move up to No. 5 in this week's AP poll, the Cardinals are the highest-ranked non-conference opponent for the Maize and Blue since facing No. 5 Notre Dame on Dec. 13, 2014. U-M will also play two other teams currently in the top 25 during the non-conference -- No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 16 Marquette.
• Kim Barnes Arico and Louisville head coach Jeff Walz are back on the same sideline for the first time since serving as assistant coaches to Dawn Staley for the USA Basketball U18 and U19 teams in 2014 and 2015. Both teams won gold medals at their international competitions. In addition, Walz was the head coach of the U23 team this summer, where Hallie Thome participated in the training camp.
• With a win, Michigan would advance to the Preseason WNIT championship game against either Texas A&M or Oregon. U-M has not appeared in a Preseason WNIT championship game, falling to Rutgers in the semifinals in 2003, its only other Preseason WNIT appearance.
