ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 23-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (9-2) continues its six-game homestand on Saturday (Dec. 16), hosting Fort Wayne at 2 p.m. inside Crisler Center. Santa Claus will be on the concourse from 12:30 p.m. until game time, with Girl Scout troops selling cookies at the game as well.
• For the second time during the non-conference season, Michigan will square off against a team that features the sister of a former men's basketball player. Hannah Albrecht, who has started all 10 games, is in her first season for Fort Wayne after transferring from Saint Joseph's. Her brother, Spike, played for the Wolverines from 2012-13 through 2015-16. U-M already faced Amani Burke of Ohio, whose brother, Trey, also played two seasons for the Maize and Blue (2011-12 through 2012-13).
• Senior Katelynn Flaherty continues to put her name in the Michigan and Big Ten record books. On the career front, Flaherty has become Michigan's career scoring leader after passing Diane Dietz in Tuesday's game (Dec. 12) against North Florida. Dietz (1978-82) set the record with 2,076 points, which had stood since her graduation in 1982. Flaherty is at 2,261 points, 46 away from cracking the top 10 in Big Ten history. Flaherty is also 181 points away from Glen Rice's total of 2,442 and has a chance to leave Michigan as the all-time leading scorer -- man or woman. She is up to 321 three-pointers in her career, 13 away from moving into the top five all-time in Big Ten history.
Flaherty has outscored the opposing team in a half twice this season -- the only player in the country to accomplish the feat twice. She scored 16 points in the first half to LIU Brooklyn's 11 on Dec. 2, before following it up by outscoring North Florida, 19-15, in the first half on Tuesday (Dec. 12).
• Michigan has found its shooting touch in its last four games, shooting over 50 percent three times. Michigan is now up to third in the Big Ten and 23rd nationally in field goal percentage at .466.
• The Wolverines have stepped up the defense in the last month of the year, holding opponents to just 50.0 points per game on 31.5 percent shooting from the field. In the five games so far in the month of December, Michigan has limited its opponents to single digits in seven of the 20 quarters played.
• The Mastodons (3-7) come to Ann Arbor after a 60-48 loss to Milwaukee on Dec. 10. Fort Wayne is averaging 59.9 points per game on 41.0 percent shooting, with De'Jour Young leading the way at 11.4 points per game. The Dons also have four players averaging at least 7.9 points per game in Anna Lappenkuper (8.9), Jaelencia Williams (8.8), Kierstyn Repp (8.8) and Hannah Albrecht (7.9). It is the first meeting between Michigan and Fort Wayne.
