
Wolverines Kick Off Homestand with Marquette

» Michigan begins a six-game homestand, hosting Marquette. The Golden Eagles are receiving votes in both polls and spent time ranked earlier this season.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (6-2) kicks off a six-game homestand on Thursday (Dec. 7), hosting Marquette (4-3) at Crisler Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m., with the game part of Michigan's Workweek Hustle promotion -- $5 for a ticket, hot dog and drink.
• Junior Nicole Munger started off the season with a bang, reaching double figures in Michigan's first two contests. She did not crack the double-figure barrier in U-M's next four games before breaking out for 16 points at LIU Brooklyn (Dec. 2). Munger got hot from behind the arc, hitting a career-best five triples. She continued her hot shooting at Detroit Mercy (Dec. 4), going for 13 points on the strength of three long balls. Over the last two games, the junior from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, averaged 14.5 points per game on 52.6 percent shooting from the floor (10-for-19) and 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from behind the line.
• Michigan has found its shooting touch in its last two games, shooting more than 50 percent in both contests. It was the first time this season that U-M cracked 50 percent, moving its season field goal percentage up to .464. Michigan is now up to second in the Big Ten in field goal percentage.
• Freshman Deja Church has continued to improve over the course of the young season, averaging 7.3 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 20.1 minutes per game. She has reached double figures three times this season, including in Michigan's last two contests. She is shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and has back-to-back games with two three-pointers.
• Michigan's freshman class of Hailey Brown, Deja Church and Priscilla Smeenge has already made an impact on the Wolverines. The trio is averaging 15.8 points per game, with Brown reaching double figures four times and Church three times. Brown has started all eight games for the Wolverines and comes in 10th among Big Ten freshmen in scoring (7.9 ppg). Church is right behind her, ranking 11th in the conference with 7.3 points per game.
• Marquette (4-3) enters the game after an 88-65 win over Wisconsin on Monday (Dec. 4). The Golden Eagles feature five double-figure scorers in Allazia Blockton (17.4 ppg), Natisha Hiedeman (15.7 ppg), Amani Wilborn (12.0 ppg), Danielle King (11.9 ppg) and Lauren Van Kleunen (10.3 ppg). Marquette is averaging 84.4 points per game on 46.9 percent shooting. MU's three losses have come to New Mexico (88-87), Tennessee (101-99, OT) and Green Bay (63-55). Michigan and Marquette are meeting for the first time since a 71-51 Michigan win on Nov. 26, 2011. The Golden Eagles are receiving votes in both polls and spent a portion of the season ranked in both.
