GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Behind a career-best three goals from junior PJ Bogle, the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team downed the Furman Paladins, 7-5, on Saturday (March 4) at Paladin Stadium.
Both sides were held scoreless in the first 10 minutes of action before a goal from senior Mikie Schlosser at the 5:03 mark of the first quarter opened the scoring. Furman (1-5) then tallied back-to-back markers to take a 2-1 lead, but sophomore Rocco Sutherland scored on a roll dodge from X to tie the contest at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.
In the second, the sides traded goals and Furman took a 4-3 lead into the half. U-M held a distinct advantage in the shot category at the intermission, 26-12.
Nearly three minutes into the third, Bogle finished a feed from senior Ian King for his second goal of the day at the 12:07 mark to knot the score at 4-4. Nearly four minutes later, U-M took the lead for the first time, as junior Patrick Tracy found attackman Brent Noseworthy on the doorstep to give U-M the 5-4 advantage.
Following a Finn Barry man-up marker for the Paladins, Bogle added another from King at the 13:07 mark of the fourth to make it 6-5 and give the Wolverines the lead for good. It was then goalkeeper Tommy Heidt who made six saves in the quarter to keep U-M in the lead, before Schlosser tacked on his second goal of the day with 49 seconds to go to ice the victory.
