DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The University of Michigan cheerleading team placed third in the finals of the NCA & NDA Cheer and Dance National Championship at the Ocean Center on Friday (April 7).
The third-place finish ended a remarkable run for the Wolverines in which they won four straight NCA titles under head coach Pam St. John.
"We are very proud of our of third place finish," said St. John. "We graduated a majority of our nationals team from last year. This was a major rebuilding year for us. We are grateful to our senior leadership who worked so hard to continue our tradition of competitive excellence. A third-place finish is a huge win for us."
Michigan finished behind Georgia Southern and East Carolina in the Intermediate Coed I division. UTEP and Jacksonville rounded out the top five.
The Wolverines advanced to the finals with a great performance at the Band Shell during Thursday's (April 6) preliminary round. U-M was vying for a fifth straight title but lost 11 seniors off the 2016 NCA Championship squad.
