
Wolverines Return to Crisler to Host Illinois

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (16-4, 5-2 B1G) returns home to Crisler Center to host Illinois (9-11, 0-6 B1G) in the only meeting between the two teams on Saturday (Jan. 20) at 6 p.m. The game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
• The game is part of Michigan's Alumni Weekend for both the men's and women's programs, with former Wolverines Jenny Ryan (2010-13) and Nicole Elmblad (2012-15) hosting a pregame clinic for girls in the William Davidson Player Development Center. Senior Katelynn Flaherty will be honored alongside Glen Rice, who she recently passed as the all-time scoring leader in U-M history, at the men's basketball game on Sunday (Jan. 21).
• Michigan picked up its first win this season over a ranked opponent, knocking off No. 8 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday (Jan. 16). It was just the fifth win over a top-10 team in program history and first since defeating No. 8 Ohio State on Jan. 7, 2012. All five of Michigan's top-10 wins have come against the No. 8-ranked team in the Associated Press poll. It was the first top-10 win for Michigan under head coach Kim Barnes Arico.
• Michigan has won 16 of its first 20 games for just the second time in program history. U-M also started the 2011-12 season with a 16-4 record. It is the best record through 20 games for sixth-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico. Michigan's 5-2 mark in the Big Ten puts it a half game out of first place in the league standings.
• U-M is 48-5 under head coach Kim Barnes Arico when scoring at least 80 points. Michigan has reached that mark eight times this season, including four times in Big Ten action.
• Michigan features three double-figure scorers in Katelynn Flaherty (23.0 ppg), Hallie Thome (16.9 ppg) and Nicole Munger (10.4 ppg). Flaherty is eighth nationally in scoring and Thome is seventh in the country in field goal percentage (.640). The duo combines to form the third-highest scoring duo in a Power Five conference.
• Illinois (9-11, 0-6 B1G) comes to Ann Arbor after a 67-55 loss to Michigan State at home on Tuesday (Jan. 16). The Fighting Illini feature a pair of double-figure scorers in Alex Wittinger (13.9 ppg, 8.9 rpg) and Brandi Beasley (12.2 ppg). Illinois is averaging 63.6 points per game on 39.3 percent shooting while allowing 70.7 points per game to its opponents on 40.8 percent shooting. Michigan has won the last two and 13 of the last 15 against Illinois.
