The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team returns home after a two-game road swing when they host the Siena Saints on Saturday (March 3) at noon from U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The Wolverines look to keep their perfect home record intact after starting the season 2-0.
WOLVERINE BITES
• In the 15-11 loss to No. 11 Yale on Feb. 24, freshman Kevin Mack tied the school record for assists in a game with four, matching the number set by Kyle Jackson (March 6, 2013, at High Point) and Ian King (Feb. 4, 2017, at Cleveland State). Mack, who owns three multi-point games on the season, ranks No. 22 in the country, and third in the Big Ten, in assists (2.00/game). Additionally, he is second on the team in points (12), ranking him ninth in the Big Ten in points per game (3.00).
• Junior Brent Noseworthy notched the fastest hat-trick in program history in the defeat against Yale, scoring three times in the first 23:10 of the contest. He finished the day with four goals, moving him into sole possession of third place in the U-M career record books for points in a career (62 points). Noseworthy leads the team in goals with 12 and a 3.00 goals-per-game average, a number that leads the Big Ten.
• The Wolverines have seen their strongest offensive efforts in the second and third quarters thus far, outscoring opponents, 25-17, and outshooting opponents, 87-61, over the same span.
• With a 2-0 mark at home this season, Michigan looks to improve to 3-0 at home which would match last season's 3-0 start that featured wins over Lafayette, then No. 10 Penn and UMBC.
• Fifty-two of U-M's 65 points this season have come via the junior (30) and freshman (22) classes combined. Noseworthy leads the team with 13 points, while Mack (12) and freshman Alex Buckanavage (10) check in as Wolverines with double-digit points.
• With four ground balls against Yale, junior longpole Nick DeCaprio sits in third amongst all players in the U-M career record books with 84. He has collected at least one ground ball in 27-of-31 games in which he has played and ranks second in pickups for a longstick in school history behind Chase Brown (133, 2013-16).
• DeCaprio leads the Wolverines with nine caused turnovers, which ranks No. 10 in the NCAA; U-M checks in at No. 12 in the NCAA in caused turnovers per contest (8.50/game). Classmate Michael Borda is second on the team in caused turnovers with three.
OPPONENT PREVIEW
Siena
The Saints enter the contest with a 2-0 record and are receiving votes in the latest USILA poll. The victories have come by way of one-goal contests in wins over Hobart (12-11, Feb. 17) and an overtime win over UMass Lowell (14-13) on Feb. 24.
The offensive unit is led by Kennan Cook, who ranks No. 19 in the NCAA in goals per contest (3.00) and Chris Robertson, who is No. 8 in the country in assists per contest (3.00) and No. 13 in points (5.00/game). Freshman goalie Anthony Tebbano has been crucial in both wins, as he owns a save percentage of 55, and is averaging 14.50 saves per contest, a number that is No. 2 in the country.
In team categories the Saints average 13 goals a contest, which ranks 12th nationally. Defensively, Sienna ranks No. 53 in the country, surrendering 12.00 goals per game.
