
Wolverines to Start CWPA Play at Indiana

The No. 9 University of Michigan water polo team will begin Collegiate Water Polo Association Conference play this weekend when they travel to Bloomington, Indiana, to square off against No. 13 Indiana at 11 a.m. on Saturday (March 31) at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
THINGS TO KNOW
• Michigan (22-7, 0-0 CWPA) and Indiana (20-5, 1-1 CWPA) have played 54 times since U-M started its program in 2001. The Wolverines lead the all-time series against the Hoosiers, 37-16-1, and have won the last three meetings by three goals or more.
• U-M has won the last three meetings in Bloomington with the last loss coming in 2011 in the CWPW Championship game.
• The Wolverines are 17-0 all-time in conference openers.
• The Wolverines are 22-7 on the year. All seven losses have come by four goals or fewer with three coming by one goal. Michigan has won by an average of 7.2 goals per game in its 22 victories.
• The offense has featured a balanced attack with 11 players scoring 10 goals or more and four averaging more than a goal per game. Two players have scored more than 50 goals on the year.
• The team's defense has allowed only two opponents to score in double figures (Cal, 11 goals) and Pacific (10). The Wolverines have not allowed double-digit goals in their last 18 games. They have held eight opponents to five goals or fewer.
• Michigan enters conference play on a 15-game win streak. During the stretch, U-M has averaged 13.27 goals per game and an average margin of victory of 7.8 goals per game. The Wolverines have scored 15 goals or more six times and 12 or more in each of the last 10 games.
• The Wolverines have won 19 straight regular-season conference games entering this year and 26 consecutive against schools in their conference.
• Two players have reached 50 goals for the season. Maddy Steere leads the team with 55 goals and Julia Sellers has 51. Kim Johnson is three goals away from joining them. Only nine players in school history have topped the 60-goal mark in a season.
• Heidi Ritner has 460 career saves to rank fifth all-time and is 18 saves shy of Julia Campbell and 20 away from Brittany May for third place.
• Ritner's 47 career wins tie Campbell for fourth most in school history. Only three players have 50 career wins or more.
• Senior Caroline Anderson is three assists shy of 250 for her career. The second most in Michigan history is 157. Anderson is three steals away from moving into fifth on the career list and eight goals shy of passing Allison Skaggs for sixth most in a career.
• Dr. Marcelo Leonardi is one win away from 100 career wins.
