QUEENS, N.Y. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 16-11 win over the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday (March 2) from DaSilva Memorial Field.
Senior Brent Noseworthy scored two goals on the day to total 94 for his career. His marker at 10:44 of the third quarter gave him the program record for goals in a career, breaking the mark previously held by Ian King (93, 2014-17).
The Wolverines fell behind 1-0 less than a minute into the contest but outscored the Red Storm, 6-1, over the duration of the first quarter. Goals came from five different scorers, while sophomore Alex Buckanavage had two goals and an assist for three points in the span.
St. John's (2-2) marked two quick goals from the crosse of Jonathan Huber to make it 6-4 at the 13:21 mark of the second. Senior Decker Curran then had a hand in each of U-M's next three goals, scoring at the 12:18 and 8:44 marks while assisting on a goal from sophomore Kevin Mack on an extra-man opportunity at 10:15 of the quarter as U-M took a 9-5 lead.
The Johnnies closed the gap with two goals in less than a minute at the 6:50 and 6:17 marks to bring the tally to 9-7. However, Mack's second goal of the game, at 1:52 of the quarter, gave U-M a 10-7 lead heading into the half.
The Maize and Blue used a 3-0 run to open the second half to build a 13-7 lead, with Noseworthy's record-breaker at the 10:38 mark of third followed by scores from junior Avery Myers at 9:44 and freshman Bryce Clay at 6:32.
With U-M leading 13-8 heading into the fourth, the two sides traded goals the rest of the contest and played an even fourth quarter at 3-3 to bring the final score to 16-11.
Junior FOGO Matt Dellacroce went 16-of-30 at the dot with 12 ground balls, the third most in a single game in program history, while senior longpole Nick DeCaprio held St. John's leading scorer Mike Madsen scoreless on five shots.

U-M will now travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to take on the defending NCAA champion Yale Bulldogs in the Atlanta Lacrosse Classic on Sunday (March 10) at 1 p.m. from Grady Stadium.
