ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team fell, 17-10, against the defending NCAA champion and No. 4-ranked Yale Bulldogs in the Atlanta College Lacrosse Classic on Sunday (March 10) at Grady Stadium.
Graduate student goalie Tommy Heidt made 19 saves in the first half and four in the second to finish the contest with 23 saves, the second-most in program history and the fourth-most in the country this year.
Five Wolverines combined to go just 4-of-31 at the dot, which resulted in Yale controlling the vast majority of possession and outshooting the Wolverines by a 59-36 margin.
Michigan (3-2) fell behind 4-2 in the first quarter but tied the game at 4 on a score from sophomore Kevin Mack at 10:20 of the second for the only tie of the contest.
The Bulldogs (3-1) then went on a 10-1 run over the next 15 minutes of play and led by as many as eight goals. An unassisted goal from sophomore Alex Buckanavage with 5:16 to go brought the score to a six-goal margin, but U-M was unable to get any closer.
Senior midfielder Decker Curran stuffed the stat sheet with two goals and an assist, as well as three ground balls and a caused turnover, while Mack and freshman Bryce Clay led U-M with three scores apiece. Michigan went 3-for-3 on man-up opportunities with goals from Clay, Curran and Avery Myers.
