COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan baseball team ran into a motivated Ohio State team Friday night in Columbus, as the Buckeyes scored six runs over the fourth and fifth innings en route to a 10-5 win over the Wolverines at Bill Davis Stadium.
Ohio State (19-16, 3-4 Big Ten) scored four runs with two outs to take down a Michigan (23-10, 4-2 B1G) team that entered play in first place in the Big Ten Conference.
As he did Wednesday night, sophomore center fielder Jesse Franklin started the scoring when he crushed a solo home run to right-center field on the first pitch he saw from Garrett Burhenn to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead.
Ohio State tied the game in the bottom of the frame with a one-out double and a two-out, single through the infield by Conner Pohl. The Buckeyes made it 2-1 in the third on a one-out triple to right from Dominic Canzone and a sacrifice fly from Kobie Foppe.
Ohio State extended the lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning with three runs on four this and a critical throwing error that changed the complexion of the inning. The inning might have continued were it not for  junior right fielder Jordan Brewer, who ended the inning with an assist to third base.
Brent Todys gave the home team a commanding 8-1 lead in the fifth with a three-run homer against freshman left-handed reliever Walker Cleveland.Â
Pohl's two-out single in the sixth made it a 9-1 game and prompted another pitching change with redshirt freshman right-hander Isaiah Paige needing just one pitch to get out of the inning.
Brewer delivered a two-run single to right in the seventh inning to make the score 9-3. Brewer had three hits and was on base four times in the game.
Canzone capped OSU's scoring in the ninth with an opposite-field solo home run. Michigan answered with two runs on a two-out single to left field from senior third baseman Blake Nelson. The Wolverines loaded the bases but OSU reliever Andrew Magno got a strikeout to end it.
The Wolverines and Buckeyes will play a pair of games Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at Bill Davis Stadium and both games will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
