Penn State (10-1, 3-0 B1G) jumped out to a two-goal lead early in the first quarter before junior Avery Myers put Michigan (3-8, 0-3 B1G) on the board with just over seven minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The Wolverines rebounded in the second quarter, outshooting PSU, 10-7, with goals by senior Decker Curran, freshman Bryce Clay and two from junior Avery Myers. Heading into halftime, U-M trailed, 9-5.
Penn State regained momentum in third quarter, outscoring Michigan, 5-2, in the period. Wolverine goals came from freshman Javon Johnson and Curran, whose second goal made him just the fourth Wolverine in program history to reach the 100-point plateau.
Michigan failed to score in the final quarter, while the Nittany Lions found the back of the net three times, extending their lead to 17-7 by the time the final whistle was blown.
