
Michigan to Travel to Hofstra to Take on Pride

The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team (1-0) will travel to Hempstead, New York, to take on the Hofstra Pride on Saturday (Feb. 15) at 11 a.m. from James M. Shuart Stadium. The contest will be streamed via Lax Sports Network, with Travis Eldridge and Davey Emala on the call.
Wolverine Bites
• Freshman Josh Zawada got off to a hot start to his U-M career with five points (two goals, three assists) en route to being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday (Fewb. 11). In his first game in maize and blue, he shot 50 percent and also had four ground balls.
• Against Cleveland State, U-M had 27 points (16G, 11A), the third most in a single game in program history. U-M also collected 43 ground balls, the second most in program history. U-M also won 18 faceoffs as a team, the most since the 2014 season.
• Freshmen Jake Bonomi, Zawada and Dylan Gardner each scored two goals in their debuts. Sophomores Drake Schaffner (three ground balls) and Nick Rowlett (14-of-23 on faceoffs) also made key contributions. Additionally, midfielder Jacob Jackson and close defender Ryan Schriber started on close defense. In all, U-M had newcomers see significant time at attack, midfield, longstick midfield, close defense and at the faceoff dot.
• Coming off their win against Cleveland State, the Wolverines are ranked 12th in the nation in offensive efficiency (32.6 percent). Michigan also is in the top third of the nation in defensive efficiency at 23.1 percent. These marks are paced by Gardner, who led the team with 9.6 percent of play shares. U-M also displayed their balance as a team against Cleveland State, as they ranked third in the nation in player contributions, a metric that measures the total number of players who contributed to each game.
• Michigan is 5-3 under head coach Kevin Conry in non-conference road games.
• Kevin Mack enters his junior season with a point in 27 straight games, and has a point in all but one of his contests as a Wolverine. The streak is the 19th-longest in the country.
• U-M has 10 players from the state of New York, the largest representation of any state. Ben Cirella, Mack, Steven Schneider (Manhasset); Bonomi, Finn Goonan, Rocco Sutherland (Northport); and Kevin Pimental (Massapequa) all hail from Long Island, in addition to Conry (Rockville Center). Andrew Russell (Victor), Joey Corbett (Pomona) and Donovan Welsh also hail from the Empire State.Â
Opponent Preview
Hofstra
Hofstra is ranked first in the nation in offensive pace, a result of their 21 goal performance to begin their season. Hofstra also is ranked second in the nation in offensive efficiency (42.9 percent), anchored by Tierney, who contributes on 15.9 percent of Hofstra's plays.
The Pride also saw a strong debut from freshman Justin Sykes, who led the Pride with six points (four goals, two assists) in their rout of Wagner. The Pride received an offensive outburst from Dylan McIntosh, who delivered a three-goal, two-assist performance to buoy Hofstra's 35 points.
This is coach Seth Tierney's 14th season as head coach of the Pride. Tierney's son, Ryan, is entering his final season, and was named the Colonial Athletic Association's preseason Player of the Year after leading the team with 55 points (42 goals, 13 assists) last season.
This will be the first meeting between Hofstra and Michigan in men's lacrosse.
