
Wolverines to Host Michigan Invite in First Action of Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team will host the three-day Michigan Invitational this weekend (Sat-Mon., Jan. 16-18) at the Varsity Tennis Center in the first action of the 2020-21 season. U-M will be joined by Big Ten opponents Ohio State, Northwestern and Wisconsin at the event.
There is no team scoring (win or loss) at the event, with everyone competing individually. There is no public access at U-M events due to Big Ten policy currently in effect, with all eight courts available for streaming through MGoBlue.com.
All four teams are competing in tournament action this weekend before participating in ITA Kick-Off events next weekend (Jan. 22-24) to begin dual-match play.
Format of Play
Each team will play three rounds of doubles and three rounds of singles. There will be up to eight flights in singles and four flights in doubles per round. Each team will play one round of singles and one round of doubles per day. The third set will be played to completion in singles.
Match Scoring
For the sixth consecutive year, the NCAA will use no-ad scoring in both doubles and singles action. This weekend's tournament will feature doubles matches to six, with a tiebreaker occurring at 6-all. Singles matches will be best two-of-three, with players playing a full third set.
