Wolverine Notes
• Junior Naz Hillmon set a new standard in her career in Michigan's 64-62 win over Nebraska on Thursday (Jan. 7), turning in a career-best 35 points and 22 rebounds. It was the second 30-20 game in Michigan history, as she joined Abby Currier (33 points, 20 rebounds) against Notre Dame on Jan. 20, 1979, in the Michigan 30-20 club. Hillmon's achievement also was the first 30-20 game by a Big Ten student-athlete since Jan. 24, 2016, and the first nationally by a student-athlete this season.
Hillmon's feat was the fourth 20-point, 20-rebound Michigan performance and first since Cyesha Goree against Minnesota on Feb. 21, 2015. Hillmon is just the sixth Wolverine to grab at least 20 rebounds in a single game, with her 22 boards ranking second in U-M game history.
• The Wolverines are out to an 8-0 start for the first time in program history. U-M started 7-0 during the 1999-2000, 2011-12 and 2015-16 seasons, with the latest streak coming under ninth-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico. Michigan's eight-game win streak is the fifth-longest in program history.
• Michigan has been effective on the glass, outrebounding its opponents in all but two games this season. U-M is eighth nationally and leads the Big Ten in rebounding margin at 15.4. U-M also leads the conference in rebounding offense (45.9) and rebounding defense (30.5). The Wolverines outrebounded Nebraska, 59-32, on Thursday (Jan. 7). U-M corralled 30 offensive rebounds in the contest, resulting in 24 second-chance points. Michigan has grabbed at least 50 rebounds in three games this season. U-M has three players averaging at least five boards per game in Naz Hillmon (11.4), Amy Dilk (5.5) and Maddie Nolan (5.3).
• Michigan is off to a 3-0 start in Big Ten action for the second time in program history after winning three straight to start the 2012-13 conference campaign. Michigan is looking for just its second 4-0 Big Ten start in program history, as the 2012-13 squad started 4-0.
• Illinois (2-5, 0-4 Big Ten) is coming off a 78-55 loss to Ohio State on Thursday night (Jan. 7) and is in the midst of a four-game skid. The Illini have two double-figure scorers in Jada Peebles (11.3 ppg) and Kennedi Myles (10.4 ppg). Illinois is averaging 61.6 points per game on 35.9 percent shooting while allowing 71.9 points per game on 41.8 percent shooting. Michigan has won five straight against Illinois.
• Michigan weathered an early barrage of there-pointers from Illinois to take an 80-59 win over Illinois on Feb. 19 at Crisler Center. The Wolverines had four players score in double figures, led by Akienreh Johnson's 22 points. She also added four boards, five assists and six steals. Naz Hillmon went for her ninth double-double of the season, recording 15 points and 10 rebounds. Amy Dilk had 15 points, two boards and five assists, and Hailey Brown turned in 14 points. U-M hit nine triples in the contest and shot an even 50 percent (26-for-52) from the field in the game.
