COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Sophomore Josh Zawada scored four goals as part of a five-point day, but the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team fell, 20-9, to No. 5 Maryland on Saturday (Feb. 20) at Maryland Stadium in the 2021 season opener.
U-M was led offensively by Zawada, who added an assist to his four tallies, and junior faceoff man Nick Rowlett, who went 15-of-28 at the dot to go along with eight ground balls.
Michigan (0-1, 0-1 Big Ten) fell behind early, but tied the score at 1 behind a marker from Zawada at the seven-minute mark of the first quarter. Maryland (1-0, 1-0 Big Ten) then ripped off four-straight scores to bring the score to 5-1 after one quarter.
