The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team (0-1, 0-1 Big Ten) will open up the home portion of the 2021 schedule by hosting Johns Hopkins (0-1, 0-1 Big Ten) on Saturday (Feb. 27) at 1 p.m. from U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Wolverine Bites
• U-M is 2-1 in home openers under head coach Kevin Conry. Last season, U-M defeated Cleveland State, 16-9, on Feb. 8, 2020.
• In last weekend's season opener at Maryland (Feb. 20), sophomore Josh Zawada marked a career-high four goals and one assist for five points. He has now scored multiple goals in every game he has played as a Wolverine and has at least four points in seven of eight games played in his career.
• Eleven Wolverines made their debuts against the Terps, including freshmen Jack Whitney, Brendan McCabe, Michael Boehm, Grant McCurry, Shane Carr, Justin Brown, Justin Wietfeldt, Kyle Stephenson and Isaac Aronson. Additionally, sophomore Matt Kelly and graduate student Tyler Papa donned the block M for the first time. The group accounted for three goals, one assist, three shots and six ground balls.
• Michigan outscored the Terps, 6-5, in the fourth quarter of the 20-9 setback. Zawada and Boehm had two scores in the quarter, while sophomores Jacob Jackson and Jake Bonomi added one apiece.
• Junior faceoff specialist Nick Rowlett had a career day at the dot vs. Maryland, winning 15 of 28 draws and collecting eight ground balls. All three numbers are career highs.
• Kevin Conry will be coaching against his alma mater, Johns Hopkins, as he is a 2004 graduate. Conry was a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team, helping the squad to a runner-up finish in the 2003 NCAA Division I Championship. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science at Johns Hopkins.

Johns Hopkins, under first-year head coach Peter Milliman, enters week two of Big Ten competition coming off a 14-8 loss against No. 10 Ohio State. Connor DeSimone led the Blue Jays in goals with three, while Ohio State transfer Josh Kirson started in goal, allowing 14 goals against 13 saves. Faceoff man Matt Narewski went 14 of 22 at the dot in the defeat. JHU was picked to finish fifth in the Big Ten preseason coaches poll.
Michigan nearly knocked off the Blue Jays in the 2018 season at home, falling by a 10-9 score on April 21, 2018.
