Wolverine Bites
• The No. 15-ranked Wolverines complete their season series against both Rutgers and Maryland this weekend with an East Coast swing. U-M opened the Big Ten slate with wins over both teams at the Varsity Tennis Center in February.
• Graduate student Chiara Lommer features an 8-4 singles mark on the year, giving her 98 wins for her career. With two more victories on the singles court, she will become just the 10th Wolverine in program history to reach triple digits. Lommer was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (March 9) for the second time in her career after going 2-0 in both singles and doubles last weekend.
• Michigan was the big mover in this week's Oracle ITA team rankings, moving up 11 spots to No. 15 after coming in at No. 26 last week. U-M is one of three Big Ten teams to appear in the top 15 of the rankings.
• At the halfway point of the Big Ten season, Michigan is atop the standings with an 8-0 record after recording wins over Illinois (4-0) and No. 7 Northwestern (5-2) last weekend at the VTC. U-M has now won 22 straight regular-season conference matches, with its last loss coming to Northwestern (4-3) April 8, 2018.
• The Wolverines are 7-0 when winning the doubles point this season, going 1-1 without the match's first point. Graduate student Chiara Lommer and freshman Jaedan Brown have combined for a 9-0 overall record and a 6-0 dual-match mark to pace the Wolverines, playing primarily at No. 1.
• Michigan debuted a new doubles team at No. 3 last weekend and the pair did not disappoint. In their first time playing together as a doubles pair, sophomore Nicole Hammond and freshman Kari Miller picked up a pair of wins as U-M won both doubles points. It was Hammond's first time in the doubles lineup during dual-match action.
• U-M sits at 8-0 at the halfway point of Big Ten play and has outscored its opponents, 43-10, over that span. Michigan has a pair of shutouts through eight matches, blanking Rutgers (7-0) and Illinois (4-0). The Wolverines are 36-9 in singles play against Big Ten teams so far this season, with Gala Mesochoritou, Chiara Lommer and Jaedan Brown each leading the way with six wins apiece.
• U-M features a pair of ranked singles players in No. 71 Andrea Cerdan, who earned All-Big Ten honors last year, and No. 101 Alyvia Jones.
• Rutgers (0-6, 0-6 B1G) is coming off a pair of 6-1 losses last weekend at Wisconsin and Minnesota. U-M is 7-0 all-time against the Scarlet Knights, including a 7-0 shutout against the Scarlet Knights to begin Big Ten action earlier this season (Feb.13).
• The Terrapins (0-6, 0-6 B1G) will host against Michigan State prior to welcoming Michigan for Sunday's (March 14) match. U-M is 12-0 all-time against Maryland after knocking off the Terps, 5-2, earlier this season at the Varsity Tennis Center (Feb. 14). Maryland has one ranked singles player, with Ayana Akli coming in at No. 89.
