
Wolverines to Complete Three-Match Homestand With Contest vs. Purdue

» Michigan completes a three-match homestand this weekend, hosting Purdue in the second of two matches against the Boilermakers this season. U-M picked up a 7-0 shutout win in West Lafayette earlier this season (Feb. 21).
» U-M has hit the home stretch of the regular season, playing just one match per weekend over the next three weekends.
» The Wolverines are looking to bounce back from their first conference loss of the season after dropping a tight 4-3 match to Ohio State (March 28).

The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (12-2, 12-1 Big Ten) wraps up a three-match homestand this weekend, hosting Purdue (5-8, 5-8 Big Ten) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines are looking to keep pace at the top of the conference along with Northwestern and Ohio State, as all three teams are 12-1.
Wolverine Bites
• The No. 18-ranked Wolverines (12-2, 12-1 B1G) remain at home this weekend, hosting Purdue (5-8, 5-8 B1G) Saturday afternoon (April 3) at 3 p.m. following the U-M men's tennis match at 11 a.m.
• Michigan's freshman class, which was ranked as the No. 6 recruiting class, has delivered this season. Kari Miller, ranked No. 43 by the ITA, has played at the top two spots this year compiling an 8-4 dual-match record to go with an 11-4 overall record. Jaedan Brown comes in at No. 105 in singles and carries a 14-2 overall singles record and a 12-1 mark in dual matches. Gala Mesochoritou is a perfect 14-0 in singles this season, with an 11-0 record in dual matches. Merri Kelly is 5-2 overall in singles, with a 2-2 record in limited dual-match action.
• There is a logjam at the top of the Big Ten standings, with Michigan, Ohio State and Northwestern all coming in at 12-1. U-M will face NU next weekend (April 11) to wrap up home-and-home series with both the Wildcats and Buckeyes. Northwestern and Ohio State are not scheduled to meet as conference opponents this season, as NU took a 4-3 non-conference match against Ohio State at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. There are three regular-season matches remaining for all three teams.
• U-M came in at No. 18 in this week's Oracle/ITA rankings as a team, while slotting in at No. 13 in the Tennis Channel/USTA top 25. On the singles side, Kari Miller (No. 43) and Jaedan Brown (No. 105) are ranked Wolverines, with Brown teaming up with Chiara Lommer as the No. 36-ranked doubles pair.
• The Maize and Blue has just three regular-season matches remaining in this unique 16-match Big Ten schedule. After playing two matches per weekend for the majority of the season, U-M will play just one match per weekend over the next three weekends before heading to Wisconsin for the Big Ten Tournament, April 28-May 2.
• Michigan wraps up a home-and-home series against Purdue on Sunday (April 3) after grabbing a 7-0 shutout win in West Lafayette, Ind., earlier this season (Feb. 21). Purdue (5-8, 5-8 B1G) is coming off a pair of weekend wins over Maryland (5-2) and Rutgers (4-1). U-M leads the all-time series against Purdue, 45-12, after getting the win on the road back in February.
• Graduate student Chiara Lommer became the 10th Wolverine in program history to reach 100 career wins, featuring a 102-45 record during her time at Michigan to rank ninth all-time. The lefty also is 13th historically at Michigan with a .694 singles winning percentage.
• During conference action, U-M has outscored its opponents, 68-20, in 13 matches. Michigan has a pair of shutouts, blanking Rutgers (7-0) and Illinois (4-0). The Wolverines are 59-16 in singles play against Big Ten teams so far this season, with Gala Mesochoritou and Jaedan Brown each leading the way with 11 wins apiece.
Last Time Out
The Wolverines went 1-1 last weekend, earning a 6-1 win over Penn State and dropping a 4-3 decision to No. 9 Ohio State, which is now ranked No. 5.
