Lau used seven first round birdies to set her trek to a record-breaking win early, carding a course record 67 (-5). After a second round 73, she closed with a 68 (-5) to post an 11-shot victory with a 208 (-8) total, which set a course record for women's 54-hole total. Ashley Lau (March 10)
Big Ten Golfer of the Week -- Ashley Lau was named the Big Ten's Golfer of the Week after her career performance and second-straight medalist honor at the 50th VyStaff Florida Invitational. Her rally to earn the individual victory helped the Wolverines move up four spots and tie for the team title with host Florida. After setting a career-best with a 67 (-3) in her first round, Lau used a new career-low 66 (-4) in the final round to record her first sub-par and U-M record 54-hole tournament total of 203 (-7) -- lowering the school record by two shots. Ashley Lau (Feb. 16)
Big Ten Golfer of the Week -- Ashley Lau was named the Big Ten's Golfer of the Week after her four final-round birdies paced her to a 71 (-1), helping her jump four spots to earn co-medalist honors at the Tulane Classic with a 221 (74-76-71). In U-M's opening spring event, Lau was one of three Wolverines to finish among the top 10, pacing the Wolverines to a runner-up finish -- the second straight for the U-M after closing the fall season second at the Landfall Tradition. Hailey Borja (Oct. 20)
Big Ten Golfer of the Week -- Hailey Borja was named the Big Ten Co-Golfer of the week after she posted her third straight top-15 individual finish, and second top-five, at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, an event which featured 12 teams ranked among the top 50 in the nation. With three straight sub-par rounds, including a career-best-tying 68 (-4) in the second round, she posted a career-best 210 (71-68-71, -6) to tie for third in the 96-player field. That total was five shots lower than her prior best of 215, which she carded in the season-opening Wolverine Invitational. She also had the third-most birdies (13) at the event and was the highest finishing Big Ten Golfer, and only one to crack the top 12. » Big Ten Release
Mikaela Schulz (Sept. 15)
Big Ten Golfer of the Week -- After a career-best performance at the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 13-14), Mikaela Schulz was named the Big Ten's Golfer of the Week -- the second of her career. Schulz opened the event firing a career-best-tying 68 (-3) in the first round and followed with a 70 (-1) in the second, sharing the lead with Durisic after 36 holes. Hailey Borja, Monet Chun, Ashley Lau (Aug. 31)
Big Ten Preseason Honorees -- The Big Ten announced its list of conference preseason honorees and senior Ashley Lau, junior Hailey Borja and sophomore Monet Chun represent Michigan's honorees.
Lau, U-M's second All-American in program history, returns for her senior season after pacing the Wolverines with a 72.64 per-round average a year ago. The All-Big Ten first-teamer posted a Michigan-best nine rounds of par or better, carded a career-low 68 (-4) twice, and tallied a career-best 211 (-5) at the 2021 Big Ten Championships, tying for third.
Receiving All-Big Ten second-team accolades for a second straight year, Borja will look to capitalize on her fifth-place finish at the NCAA Finals, as well as her Sweet 16 appearance in the 2021 U.S. Women's Amateur this summer -- her third straight trip to match play.
The reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year and All-Big Ten first team member, Chun carried a 73.82 average last season and nearly won the NCAA Columbus Regional, tying as the runner-up with a 215 (-1) tally at the Scarlet Course. » Big Ten Release
