The Wolverines raced against competitors from around the area including Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Michigan State, Calvin College, Lansing Community College and Windsor.
Junior Michael Hancock finished in second place and was the fastest Wolverine in uniform. After a mile, Hancock was near the front of the pack and managed to pick up the pace throughout rest of the race to finish in a time of 14:56.8, a career best by 48 seconds.
The next finisher for the Maize and Blue was James Gedris who finished in fourth with a career-best time of 15:10.3. He led after the first mile with only a few seconds separating the top five but fell back a few spots over the next two miles.
Michigan's other top finishers were sophomore Henry Johnson (15:19.7), sophomore John Florence (15:26.6) and sophomore Xander Black (15:44.9). Both Johnson and Florence set career-best times in the 5K.
Sophomore Miles Brown, who holds the U-M men's track and field records in the 600- and 800-meter runs, made his cross country debut and finished 17th with a time of 15:53.5.
Two Wolverines ran attached and both finished in the top 10, with freshman Ian Hill winning the race in a time of 14:56.1. Finishing in eighth place was freshman Riley Flemington in 15:24.5.
