
Twelve Wolverines Score Goals in Road Rout of Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team got goals from 12 different goal-scorers to earn a dominant 20-7 victory over Cincinnati on Sunday (Feb. 20) at Nippert Stadium.
Of the 12 Wolverines who scored, seven tallied two goals or more, led by Claire Galvin who posted a hat trick with three goals. Kaylee Dyer spearheaded the offensive push with five points (two goals, three assists)
U-M won the draw-control battle 18-12 with Josie Gooch wining five draws and Annabelle Burke winning three.
Defensively, Michigan caused 10 turnovers with Katherine Galzerano having a pair while picking up three ground balls, and Shaylah Marciano added two ground balls. Graduate student Arielle Weissman notched her fourth win of the season in the cage with six saves, while Erin O'Grady played the second half and made a career-high four saves.
U-M and Cincinnati exchanged goals early to start the first quarter before the Wolverines scored five straight, capped off with a Caroline Bean one-timer off a pass from Caitlin Muir to give Michigan a 6-1 lead with just over a minute to play in the first quarter. The Bearcats finished the quarter with one final goal to come within four heading into the second quarter.
The Wolverine offense did not slow down in the second quarter, with Dyer assisting on back-to-back goals to increase the Michigan lead to 10-2. U-M tacked on three more goals to close out the first half on a running clock and with a 13-2 advantage.
Dyer led the Wolverines with her five points, and Michigan had five players score two goals, while Weissman made six saves in the cage. U-M tallied 20 shots in the first 30 minutes with 16 on goal.
The Bearcats looked to close the gap following the halftime break with two straight goals, but the Michigan offense had an answer. Jane Fetterolf netted a goal to bring the lead to 15-5 and the game back to a running clock with one minute remaining in the third quarter.
U-M answered each of Cincinnati's two final goals with a goal of its own and closed out the game on a three-goal run to earn the road victory.
Michigan will remain on the road, when it travels to Towson, Md., for a 1 p.m. contest against Towson next Sunday (Feb. 26).
