Wolverines Remain Perfect with Win Over Cleveland State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team improved to 5-0 for the first time in program history with a wire-to-wire 13-5 win over the Cleveland State Vikings on Saturday (Feb. 26) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Michigan was led by junior Jake Bonomi , who tallied three goals on six shots, while freshman Aidan Mulholland marked a score and a career-best trio of helpers. As a whole, the Wolverine midfield units accounted for nine of U-M's 13 goals.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 3-0 lead halfway through the first quarter (7:47). The two sides then traded goals before U-M held Cleveland State scoreless for a shade under 29 minutes, spanning from late in the first quarter to late in the third.
U-M held a 13-2 lead after three quarters of action. The Vikings outscored the Wolverines, 3-0, in the final 8:31 of the fourth quarter to run the final tally to 13-5.
Junior faceoff man Nick Rowlett went 10-of-17 at the dot with six ground balls, while close defenders senior Andrew Darby and sophomore Jack Whitney had four pickups apiece. Fellow longpole in graduate student Jackson Zaugg had two ground balls and caused a trio of turnovers, while sophomore Shane Carr stopped 10 shots in the cage against two goals allowed (83 percent).
Junior Josh Zawada had two goals and one assist. His assist now gives him 48 in his U-M career, three away from breaking Ian King's (2014-17) program record of 50. Zawada has yet to play in the fourth quarter of any contest this season.
CSU goalkeeper Cameron Logan was strong in the goal, stopping 17 shots against 13 goals allowed (57 percent), while Gavin Held and Gannon Matthews had two scores apiece.

Up next, Michigan hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles on Tuesday (March 1) in Milwaukee, Wis. Faceoff is slated for 1 p.m. CST. The week concludes with a matchup against the No. 17-ranked Delaware Blue Hens on Saturday (March 5) at noon at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
